Use it constantly for landscape construction layouts. Very easy to use and very accurate. Best with two people if you have lots of distances to measure, but the main unit works very well by itself if you have a smooth reflecting surface to bounce off. Doesn't use light so bright sunlight isn't a problem.

In short: The tool can measure short distances very well by itself and has an electronic target that you can use to measure longer distances. The range is drastically overstated, and if you use the tool with the electronic target you need to be super accurate with the alignment of the two. There is no visual beam or anything to help you in this alignment. If you don't have any other tool that can assist you with the alignment (like a tripod at least), this can complicate things drastically.Full explanation: I bought this tool to measure a land plot on the side of a mountain. I found the range highly appealing since the land plot is relatively big and a longer range means less measurements and less time.The land plot is empty except for some short vegetation.There's almost no human presence around it.My wife and I tried to measure the sides of the plot using the electronic target. Advertised maximum range is 250ft. Given that the land plot is empty and there's nothing around except for some shrubs, I thought it reasonable to expect a range of 200 ft. We were only able to measure segments of 30 - 40 ft. I think the problem is the alignment of the tool. We ended up having to align the tool and target at a distance of 1 ft, then having one of us walk away with the target while the other kept checking if the tool was still getting a read. As soon as the tool stopped getting a read, we would try to get them realigned in case we had tilted one too much by accident. This usually allowed us to get 5 or 6 feet more, but we were never able to get more than 40ft.If you are hunting for a long range tool and you are, like us, an amateur without any special equipment to assist the alignment, you may want to reconsider just buying a really long measuring tape or to invest more money and get a laser measurement tool.

The unit did not work - sorry - it was junk!

I draw floor plans for real estate agents, and this is an excellent tool for indooor use. Agreed (with a previous reviewer), outdoor measurements can be slightly off depending on weather, but that's not a problem for me. The receiver gaurantees you are measuring the true distance, unlike a single unit where you may be picking up kitchen cupboards or lamps for example. The receiver does not power off automatically, so it can run the battery down when it is not in use. The sending device shuts off automatically. Working alone, I often have to be creative as to where the receiving device is placed, and it is delicate, so dropping it is expensive. All-in-all, this is a pretty good device for the money.

I purchased this for a friend who is a Realtor. It couldn't be more simple to measure a room and is very accurate. The unit is simple to use, you get the measure of a distance by simply pressing a single button. It allows you to get the square dimensions of a room by automatically multiplying the width and length of a room! My friend was very pleased with the gift and with the entire unit. Accurate!!!

Was just what I wanted.

Though a good product, its accuracy varies dramatically when taken out from an airconditioned indoor room or car to out doors.It varies from 1Ft to 3Ft for a distance of 200ft. This makes this product pretty useless.
