Awesome jacket for riding horses and ATVs, and other outdoor work.
Just fed horses on a cold Wyoming morning with a -12 temperature and light winds. The Pathfinder jacket was perfect for about an hour, with just a t-shirt and hooded sweater underneath. For longer exposure, higher winds or colder temperatures I add a vest or second sweater. During the summer and fall elk hunting season I keep this jacket on my saddle. Great in rain or snow plus it is resistant to snags and rips. I purchased my first Pathfinder (XL) over 20 years ago and I still use it, all snaps and zippers are working well. Just got (February 2019) my second jacket (XXL) and appears to be same quality as my old jacket. I'm 6 foot and 250 pounds, the XXL fits with room for thick vest or several layers and sleeves are just past my wrists meshing well with winter gloves. When I was 6 foot and 220 pounds the XL was a good choice. A great value.

Western character with lots of features.
Took a chance on this coat. I’m usually size Large or XL Tall or a 44L. I emailed Outback Trading directly about the measurements and based on their speedy response I decided to go with an XL. Fits great with the added bonus of the draw string to allow me to cinch it tighter around my waist. The coat itself is made of waxed cotton canvas. It is heavy, but not so heavy that it feels stiff. Honestly I’ve owned jackets made of heavier stuff, but they cost way way more. Mine had no odor of mineral spirits or oils. The liner seems fairly warm, and I have room for layers.Zipper is sturdy, buttons are good especially the riding flap on the back. The leather collar is nice and large and can be flipped up to keep the wind off my neck. Pockets are in good location.Style is pretty much western. I don’t think it would be out of place anywhere, but definitely western. The Bronze is a dark brown that I’m sure will change with age. Looks great in my opinion. Most importantly is warmth. I don’t think it is quite as warm as my Carhartt arctic extremes jacket, but is more waterproof and feature rich.Think I might have to get the black one too.

Excellent Quality Coat
The quality of this coat is better than I expected. This is a very manly looking coat with a very nice and warm inner lining. I can tell with out a doubt that I will get many years of winters use. Love the oiled leather collar. All of the exterior pockets are placed perfectly. The inner concealed carry pocket even has a sort of holster type of band to help securely hold your weapon or whatever else you want to place in it. It is also zippered. The oilskin outer shell is a heavy duty material that I am sure is more than thorny brush proof. I believe it is 12oz cotton. Many other oilskin jackets use 8oz cotton. It is western rancher styled. Definitely NOT drugstore cowboy. This is one tough very good looking manly coat. Wear it in the field or wear it to town. I love this coat! Top off the look with a quality Stetson felt/fur or Resistol hat...folks will notice you as if you are the Marlboro Man when you walk by them. I highly recommend this coat if you are contemplating buying one. I am very pleased. I am sure you will be too. I tip my hat to the Outback Trading Co. Good job on everything...design, quality and features. Rain and wind proof and just the right mid-length with an inner drawstring to snug up the waist area if needed. Oh yeah, the snaps at the bottom sides are nice if you need to unsnap to give a little more roominess when riding your horse or motorcycle.

Great all around winter coat with some flaws that can be overcome.
I bought one of their oilskin hats, and was so impressed with the quality and design that when I needed a coat, I got this one. At first I was both impressed with the quality of craftsmanship and design details, and put off by the creosote-like smell. At times I sprayed it with Lysol's Neutra Air which worked temporarily to remove the odor, but after a while it came back.I've had it for about 6 weeks now and I can say the odor is almost entirely gone. It will probably be completely gone in another few weeks, but it's not objectionable now. 2 weeks or even 4 weeks is not long enough to air it out to dissipate the odor... at least not in the winter. Since so many people object to the odor, I don't know why the manufacturer doesn't air them out before packaging and shipping. It's a shame, because the jacket is probably the best one I've ever owned. But I wouldn't call it a jacket, it's more like a coat. It's heavy (which doesn't bother me) and very warm. I've worn it in zero degree weather and was not cold at all. But if it's 40 degrees and sunny you have to open the front or else it gets too hot. It's not for mild weather. The top closes well around the neck, and with the collar up and a bomber hat on, it's almost like having a full hood. However, I also ordered the hood from this company which is made for their dusters. Outback doesn't say the hood also goes with the Pathfinder, but I contacted them and they said it can be attached if a tailor or cleaner inserts snaps into the collar. Why they don't sell it with pre-installed snaps and promote it as having an optional hood, I don't know. It's a marketing error as far as I'm concerned. I took it to a cobbler who attached the hood, and now I love this coat even more. The hood is light and almost unnoticeable, but when up it works great to keep out wind, rain or snow. The hood's storm flap works well, and there's a small visor built into the hood which is also a nice feature. And it fits around a winter hat, so you can keep your head and ears warm and well as dry and out of the wind.I also had the cobbler sew in a new zipper. The zipper it comes with is not adequate. At least mine wasn't. No matter how I tried to zip it up, it would take a number of attempts before I could get it to work. A double zipper is a great feature, and along with the side snaps it makes driving with this coat comfortable. But they should spend a few dollars more and put in a full metal zipper instead of zipper with metal teeth in a plastic base. The cobbler put in a brass YKK #10 zipper, which is a bit large but works and looks great. It did add to the cost of the coat, though. To me, it was worth it rather than returning the coat or getting an exchange, which might have the same zipper problem. The cobbler was so impressed with this coat that he spent many minutes with me talking about it and examining it. He used to be a policeman and was impressed with the concealed carry pocket, but also with the overall quality and design. He said he was going to get one for himself. If I was thin, I would wear a large coat or shirt, but since I'm a bit overweight in the abdomen I usually get extra large so it's not too tight. Based on reviews that say the size runs large, I got this coat in a large and it fits perfectly. It's not too tight or too loose, it doesn't bind anywhere, the sleeves are just the right length... perfect. I'm 5'10, weight 180 lbs., 38 waist, 30" sleeve... if that helps anyone. This coat sheds water completely, is warm, and is tough. I wear it when walking the dogs, feeding hay to horses, carrying firewood, and doing other chores of country living, as well as when driving to town, shopping and going to work. It looks great, better than the pictures. Other people like the way it looks, also. With this coat you can have a sophisticated town coat, rain coat and work coat, all in one. If you don't like the smell, hang it up somewhere with air circulation, and wait a couple of months.

Much less likely to overheat, great in rain.
One issue the zipper is tricky, The bottom zipper, which allows you to go the bathroom without unzipping all the way down, has to be in the bottom position against the stop in order to zipp to the top. Other wise you can't start the up zippper. Now as for the garment, it's top of the line, comfy, cozy, wind and rain proof, Covers a taller individual well. You have all the pockets and adjustments you need. I wear this coat every day, and put my devices in the pockets and away I go. You could even pack your lunch if you want.
