Thanks for your question! We actually do not recommend that any synthetic rope, including polyethylene rope, is installed and used on any Dutton-Lainson winch. These ropes can create constricting forces that pose a high risk of severely damaging the winch’s reel and ultimately the winch as a whole.

Q: Can you use wing nuts with lock washers instead of regular washers to hold the reel in place?to secure tbe reel

Should work just fine, but I'd also use flat washers in addition to the lock washers to help distribute the stress and load.

Thanks for your question! This WG1500HD does not technically feature a braking mechanism, but when you stop cranking the handle, your load will stop moving and be held in place.
