The GL.iNet GL-MT1300, also known as Beryl, is a marvel of modern technology packed into a pocket-sized router. Being a professional who values connectivity on the go, I have found the Beryl to be an indispensable tool. It offers incredible flexibility, robust security, and commendable performance that far exceeds its compact size. With an impressive dual-band WiFi, the Beryl provides speeds up to 867Mbps (5GHz) and 400Mbps (2.4GHz), outperforming many standard-sized routers. Combined with MU-MIMO technology, it supports up to 40 wireless devices simultaneously, making it a workhorse for connected environments, whether that's at home, in a hotel, or at a convention.Beryl’s advanced MediaTek chipset ensures a high-speed Internet experience. Coupled with its extremely lightweight design, Beryl provides portable convenience and power. Its slick, user-friendly interface simplifies the setup process and administration, while its OpenWrt operating system gives advanced users the freedom to customize and execute various IoT projects. The built-in security protocols are another standout feature. Beryl comes pre-installed with OpenVPN & WireGuard, compatible with 30+ VPN service providers, and a pre-installed Tor service, enhancing online anonymity and data protection. The added DNS encryption with Cloudflare adds an additional layer of security, protecting against DNS hijacking and domain theft. The router also offers a solution to the time-limit restrictions common in public Wi-Fi hotspots. By reconnecting to the Wi-Fi, users can continue browsing securely and privately. Moreover, the Beryl's additional storage options, including a MicroSD slot and a USB 3.0 port, allow users to store files locally. The combination of advanced security features, impressive speeds, wide device support, and customizable, open-source software make it an invaluable tool for both casual and advanced users. Whether you're looking for a compact solution for secure browsing at home or a portable powerhouse for travel, the Beryl is an exceptional choice.Pros: • Compact and lightweight design • Impressive dual-band Wi-Fi speeds • Supports up to 40 devices simultaneously • Advanced security features, including VPN and Tor services • Open-source and programmable • Extensible storage options • IPv6 support • Easy to set up and use • High-quality hardware and powerful performance • Great for traveling, with good tethering options and solutions for time-limited public Wi-FiCons: • Runs hot under certain conditions • Status LED strip could be more intuitive • Some features require technical knowledge to utilize • Limited internal storage, although this can be supplemented with external options

The Perfect Router
I’ve been on Amazon for nearly 20 years and this is the first time I feel compelled to leave a review. So many good things to note:- Small size and weight- Excellent design with customisable side button (meaning the router can auto-connect to VPN when switched on). Easy to set up customised VPN configurations.- Excellent and really easy-to-set-up functionality: works with compatible Huawei 4G internet dongle (literally plug in and it works), works with iPhone USB tethering (again, no configuration needed).- There is a ‘new’ app and it work brilliantly, giving control over the router’s functionality.- USB C powered, which is super convenient.- Supports LUCI if you want to get really technical (I used it to install a router-level adblocker, for example, and even that was really not complicated)Granted, I did need to refer to some of the documentation online, which is really good.Maybe I’m a year or two out of date, but I thought you had to buy a reasonably expensive brand-name router, risk flashing it with some open source firmware, and then hope things wouldn’t get too complicated to achieve the same results. Overall, this piece of kit is supremely good value and is really easy to use and travel with. It also looks so much better than some of the other rubbish on the market (is it just me, or do some companies intentionally design routers to look like killer robots?!).The only negative I can think of, which for me I really don’t care about, is that sometimes, when changing settings on the admin panel, the WiFi will disconnect very briefly if you have another network saved on your device, meaning you have to reconnect to continue using the admin panel. But, for me it’s expected behaviour from a router like this, and I doubt it would happen if my device wasn’t so eager to switch to another saved network. My use case is living on the road/relatively small spaces so it’s fine for my needs. Given the quality of this product, if I needed a ridiculously powerful WiFi signal or wanted to create a mesh network I would certainly still consider more powerful models from this company (I think they are working on/releasing WiFi 6 routers soon), and I’ll be keeping an eye on their future releases if I ever want to upgrade.

Wow! Compact & powerful!
I’m very impressed with the design, the range, the software controls, and the interface. I have owned dozens of home routers in the past. This little travel-size has outperformed them all.Getting started - so easy! Just plug it in, find the WiFi, and give it WAN access. I chose to use the wired connection to my modem so I was literally connected to the internet in 2 minutes. If I want to use it as a gateway and repeater, it’s so easy to pickup the hotel WiFi and I don’t have to setup a new internet connection on each of my devices individually.Next, I loaded my VPN provider (you can choose from a dozen or more brands) and gave it my login. And all my devices now appear to be getting an internet connection from my home country. I travel the globe year-round so this allows me to appear online as if I am in my home market for movies, banking, and search results. And everything I transmit is securely encrypted and firewalled.Range & speed - across the room, I get 300mb and with Wireguard turned ON, that drops to 125mb. Very acceptable! Three stories above the router, I still get a very solid connection on the 2.4 wireless (5g drops to an unreliable 1-bar).Navigation- the software is very smartly designed for both streamlined convenience and super-capable functionality. There is mobile app for key features, a more robust web app, and a full-featured downloadable UI for programming custom routing, rules, exclusions, etc.. It has an impressive number of features.

Amazing product
Does exactly what you expect from it. I am using it with VPN on and, when connected with ethernet, have no complaints about the speed. Light, portable and powerful - if you move a lot around then you should have this router.
