why do the have a hole in the middle ?

Stove burners frequently have holes in the middle which serve as oven vents. I think the oven vents help maintain even oven temp. The aluminium liners have holes so the oven vents are not blocked.

These were not two different sizes, the hole in the middle is much larger, and they are meant for gas grillers, not electric stoves like in the description. I bought them before, and they were great, but what I received now is completely different, wrong , and not appropriate.
