Wow. There's a lot of REALLY over the top reviews for this product. Look, maybe these collars are not for every cat, but no flea and tick treatment is right for every cat. Look at any review section for any of these products, and you see the horror stories. I was initially hesitant to buy these because of some of the horror story reviews talking about skin irritation and hair loss, so I asked our trusty vet. Her response? Most problems are caused by user error, so just follow the directions everything will be fine. The directions clearly say not to fasten these too tightly. An appropriate fit is loose enough that you could snuggly slip it over your kitty's head without adjusting. If you fasten it too tightly, it might cause irritation. Now for effectiveness. These work really well for prevention. We have two cats the spend most of their time outside. Recently, a third cat showed up and decided my yard is his new home too. I noticed this new cat had fleas, and so I bought these collars for all three cats. For the new cat that had fleas, the results were modest. I saw a good amount of flea die off in the first week, but eventually, we still needed to give him an oral treatment to fully clear the infestation. The other two cats never had fleas to begin with, and these collars managed to keep them clear of any flees going on three months now. That's pretty impressive to me considering that all three cats were quite affectionate with each other and even slept next cuddled up on a few occasions. All in all, I call that a success, especially considering the affordability.
