The Ayurvedic Woman: The Essential Guide for Wellness in All Phases of
E**E
Mediocre and superficial
If you already read a book of Dr. Vasant Lad or Dr. Frawley you only can see this book as superficial. She writes a bit about Ayurveda, but it lacks depth. I hoped to find some help with my premenopausal sleep problems and information on Ayurvedic help for women`s problems in general, but there are no solutions in this book, just some general stuff about Ayurveda. She writes how to reduce Vata, but the recommended herb mixtures will increase Pitta in some women.A lot of times she writes about the women who came with some problems into her office, she adviced them to change their food habits and take some herbs, but nothing concrete. Always no solutions. Several times I had the impression that the main purpose of this book is to lure the reader into her practice as a customer. So is the rest of the information in this book. Nothing really helpful, nothing in depth. Not a book that earns a place on my shelf. It is not bad, per se, a lot of people love this kind of superficial books and there are worse books about kind of "would-be-Ayurveda". At least she writes about the real Ayurveda, but quite superficial. She quotes several other authors like Svoboda. Maybe I should buy their books. Some of the information is wrong, e.g. on page 43 she advices to drink coffee between 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. (which is wrong, because Vata-time is between 1 p.m to 5 p.m.) because then is according to her Vata time and coffee would be therapeutic. Indeed coffee increases Vata and Pitta and problems related to these Doshas. It can disrupt your sleep, especially if you are an older woman. Indeed there are not many foods and beverages that will increase Vata as much as coffee. In Vata time Vata already increases. To further increase it is not therapeuthic. Indeed it is the complete opposite of it. I wouldn`t go to this women if I wanted a healer or therapeut. If you wand to have real information safe your money on this one and buy a book of Dr. Vasant Lad instead. He wrote for example one with Ayurvedic home remedies, that many will find very helpful for a lot of ailments.
