Not worth the money, and dangerous
I was using this hand wench (rated at 600Lbs.) to lift 16' X 3' pieces of metal siding in place for a building project. The siding panels weighed approx. 65 lbs. each. The cog lever that locks the wench gears in place and prevents the wench spool from reversing failed after approximately 20 lifting cycles. It is a stamped piece of soft steel that did not fully engage the gears and allowed the gears to slip past. At one point it jammed and wouldn't allow the wench handle to turn in either direction. This thing is junk and I would not recommend it to anyone.

Good tool and worked well for my need
I bought this winch to drag boulders up a steep bank (60 degrees+) from a creek bed. It worked well on a couple of irregular shaped boulders that weighed between 300-400 lbs.Overall, I'm pretty pleased with the winch, and would buy again. My only "issue" is that it wasn't particularly easy to "install". My method was to bolt the winch to a sturdy tree at the top of the bank. I used lag bolts, but the "problem" was that the holes in the winch for mounting were not lined up well for using a screw gun or impact wrench, so I had to start them with the screw gun, and then use a socket wrench to tighten (and eventually uninstall). Of course, if you will be permanently mounting the winch somewhere, this isn't a big deal.

Inexpensive and does the job, but not sturdy
I bought 3 of these to use to hoist steel panels for a steel arch building. They do the job okay, but if I needed them to last a long time I'd get something better made. The steel of the body / frame flexes enough for the ratchet pawl to become disengaged sometimes under heavy load (but within specs).

More than 600?
This winch came in handy quite a bit yesterday. I got my trailer stuck in the mud trying to get out of a lot. It had been sitting in mud for a few days and it was stuck hard and my truck couldn’t get enough traction to pull it out. I have it attatched to the front of it and I was able to hook it to the truck and pulled it out by hand! I don’t know how strong this really is, but I feel that pull was more than 600 lbs.
