Question 2

Can you limit the fractions to 32nds? I want one too round to a reasonable fraction for quick drill selection.

I keep another set that does 64ths for wuickly measuring hex wrenches and drill bits.  This caliper is useless if you have an unmarked hex wrench pile and want to quickly find the right one.  Math is easy enough, but a pain when you're in a hurry.

If you have the data cable, you can use excel on your computer to round to nearest useful fraction.

This really is a design flaw in my opinion because you dont use fractions for precision...you would be in decimal mode. You only use fractions for practical stuff like finding the 3/16 or 5/32 drill bit or hex wrench.  Nobody is using fractions past 64th in the real world...they almost always move over to decimals after 64ths.

Question 3

When it's closed, should it read zero? Mine shows a negative

If you open the jaws and happen to press the zero button it will measure from that point. If you then close the jaws past the point where you pressed the zero button, it will read in the negative because you went passed that point of zero. Simply close the jaws all the way and press zero again to recalibrate the zero to closed position.
