Isn't what I expected, but it was so good I almost ate it all before the rest of dinner was ready. I didn't add the oil/butter or onion, just cooked the chickpeas in crockpot about 3 hours, then added 3 tablespoons of the mix. The water foamed up like it was going to boil over but I kept stirring and it went down. It's a spicy flavor, very tasty. Will definitely reorder.

Who knows when this was packaged . It was stale and had absolutely no flavor or fragrance.

Delicious, and relatively mild. Makes it easy to do fast and fresh dinner. The box will last me for 8-10 batches. I'm getting hungry. Gotta go.

To preface, I am the whitest white girl ever, but I love middle eastern food. I have no idea what I'm doing and I don't really follow the directions. I just throw stuff in until I like it. I haven't tried any of the other brands of mixes yet, so I can't comment on those, but I've really like this one. I'm not sure what is going on with the chemical taste people have talked about unless they got an old or bad one? For me, it only takes a couple tablespoons of this to one batch (about 2 cans or 1 bag of beens). Maybe I'll change my mind after I've tried others, but for now it's a good place to start.

The Shan Chana Masala I received is in a green box and contains sodium bicarbonate. When added to chick peas it foams a lot. It has a strong sodium bicarbonate and strangely soapy taste. Would taste good if it weren’t for that. Unfortunately I will discard pending some correction might be offered by my Jain hindu friends.

This makes a yummy tasting dish. Downside is that it is high in sodium. Also, the packages looked liked they had been jostled around a lot, so there were a couple of tiny holes in every foil envelope inside. That means a lot of "dust" from the powder inside was puffing out, as the package was no longer completely sealed. Makes me a bit nervous to think the product could have been tampered with, but I used one package already and I'm fine. So foil packaging could be better.

Shan have a really good product range. Much better than anyone else out there. Ads flavor and taste to your chana dishes.

Very good. Some chana masala is very hot. This one is mild.

The shan spice mixes are such a great cheat - I have used them for years to make authentic tasting indian food (an indian colleague recommended them to me). The chana masala is a particular favourite. I'm surprised at the negative reviews because when I cook this it always goes down a storm. It is a cheap and easy way to create a delicious chickpea curry because you don't have to have a cupboard full of spices - the exact blend needed has already been created. It is quite salty but I like that for chana masala; I don't find it too much. I always have a box of this in the cupboard.

Great indiapn flavor For under $2, and easy to add to your chicken peas, lentils, veggies. A bit heavy on the salt.
