It unlocked easily for us. To get the locking function to work, I had to extend the rod fully, pulling the inner rod out fully. You will then see a clear elastomer part that rides on a conical thread. Hold the elastomer part stationary and rotate the inner rod to see how the elastomer will expand within the outer tube. Turn the rod back a bit, so the inner just fits within the outer, slide the rod to the desired length, then rotate the inner in the direction you just figured out is needed to make it expand and lock (same as the instructions show BTW). Somehow, after no success getting it to lock initially, once I had looked at how the mechanism works I was able to lock it in place easily.

I wanted to mount my beautiful shower curtain in front of my step-in shower. So I decided a spring loaded rod would be the solution. After a search I chose this model. And the price was excellent. I was able to place it a few inches in front of the glass door and the beautiful curtain, which I had put away since my move to an apartment with only a step-in shower, is securely hanging now, adding a touch of soft beauty to my bathroom. The shiny white finish is perfect.

With the word "Tension" in the product title and description, I was fully expecting a "Spring Loaded" type of tension. Must admit I was a little disappointed, but decided to figure it out - LOL!!! After reading the directions and installing the curtain rod in my shower, I am totally amazed at how strong and sturdy the rod is!! So far, it is holding my new hookless shower curtain very securely in place. The rod appears to be a very high quality product with an outstanding price point and looks very pretty in my shower. The rubber ends have a super grip and there appears to be no slippage at all. VERY happy with this shower curtain rod!!! Thank You!!

These are good quality rods and we've purchased many over the years. The new 6-inch wide label sticker is horrible though. It took me an hour and lots of rubbing alcohol to peel it off bit by bit and remove the adhesive. It's enough to keep me from buying it again.
