does it stop slugs n snails

It's not really what it's designed for, but I cannot see why it would not work on slugs. It is REALLY chunky salt, so will last longer on the ground than your average table salt.

Is it just pure salt without grit the 20kg bag???????

Yes - I think & maybe assume it is. I would not risk for cosumption though!.
