NO SECURITY IN THIS SHREDDER
I have never given a negative review to an item on Amazon, mostly because I research to the nth degree and know the quality of the product I am buying. However, after spending much time researching and previously having purchased the Fellowes 99MS from Amazon, I bought this item not recognizing it is a ridiculously outdated shredder. I was so focused on safesense technology for my daughter's baby that I lost sight of the piece of garbage the shredder is. If you just want to have fun cutting up paper, this works. If you want your shreds secure--DO NOT BUY THIS SHREDDER. With deep regrets over my clicking back and forth and not paying attention.

Only lasted 16 months..... very disappointed
Didn't last long at all. This was a very heavy high priced machine and I thought that it could last for few years but it didn't. All of the sudden yesterday it started running all by itself, no paper was in it and no one was near it. I tried to turn it off but it wouldn't turn off so I unplugged it. It smelled like burning plastic and won't restart. I checked the unit and there is no jam or paper in the teeth. I am just glad that I was home since it may have burned my house down if I weren't here to unplug it.

Not "jam proof"
After much research, I bought this shredder to replace a larger Fellowes shredder that had provided excellent service for many years until I knocked it over and the shredder teeth became misaligned. With that shredder, it took only the touch of a piece of paper to the opening, and it pulled in the paper, no pushing needed. I suppose this model is safer in that you have to push the paper down before it engages, but having to carefully feed paper down into the opening before the shredding teeth pull it in makes for a much slower process. And it doesn't take much to fill the bin completely, so be prepared to empty it often. On the plus side, I was pleasantly surprised that the wheels went on much easier than I expected from reading the reviews. I had only a regular hammer, but using a thick potholder as a cushion, the wheels went in with only a few firm taps.Sadly, and unlike my earlier Fellowes model, this shredder is not "jam proof." I've been careful not to load more than three or four sheets of standard weight paper at a time, and I hadn't had any issues until I tried to put in two envelopes at a time. Both envelopes contained only a single sheet of paper, so I put the envelopes in vertically, side by side. There was still space on either side of the opening and the envelopes didn't overlap, yet the shredder jammed. Nothing short of pulling the envelopes out, which took considerable effort, solved the problem.I like the shredder as it's a bit smaller and has considerably quieter operation than my former Fellowes shredder, but I'm rather disappointed with the recent jam, especially considering the light weight of the items that got jammed. I lubricated the shredder after assembling it, and it hasn't required additional lubrication as yet because it hasn't gotten much use. So I was taken aback at the jam that required sheer brute strength to resolve. I'm hoping that jam was just a fluke. But having had this shredder for only a week, and taking care not to overload it or operate it for more than a few minutes at a time, I'm now a bit concerned about how it will hold up. Still, I'm counting on the usual Fellowes quality and hoping I'll get years of use out of this model, with proper care.

Flimsy piece of junk
One caster has already broken off. The bin is very cheap and hard to slide in and out. Very disappointing.

The long shreds cause the bin to fill up very quickly as there is so much "fluff" not at all like their true cross cut shredder which consolidates the shreds ...
Filled with plastic parts, the head unit this replaced was all metal. Unfortunately the model this replaced, is no longer made. Stops feeding when fed a "junk mail" envelope which is just a bit thicker than "normal".Most importantly this sure doesn't appear to be a cross cut shredder as the pieces it makes are 1.5" long. The long shreds cause the bin to fill up very quickly as there is so much "fluff" not at all like their true cross cut shredder which consolidates the shreds tightly since the cross cut shreds are probably 1/4" square at the largest.

Quiet and Powerful shredder
Bought the Fellowes 79Ci to replace my Ativia shredder that died after 10 years of good service. Use this in my home office, so it sees rather light duty. I seldom shred more than 40-50 sheets of paper at a time. Thus far the 79Ci does the job well. Positives are it's quiet, much quieter than my old shredder, not too bulky and will process more sheets at one time than my old unit. I don't like the 'deeper' paper sensor that makes shredding receipts, which I do a lot, more difficult than my Ativia shredder. The built in waste basket works well, but using bags is a waste of time as they too easily restrict the basket and thus the basket latch that has to be engaged for the shredder to operate. Others have commented on the wheel installation and I just gave them a good 'whack' with a plastic hammer and they went in easily. Hopefully the 79Ci will be reliable as it's not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Great Machine
This is a big improvement on all the shredders we have had before. Just wish to bin was slightly bigger to hold more waste.

This thing is a Beast!
Love the build quality. You will not be dissapointed. Heavy but understandable for the quality of the blades. Great size for small office. I would have opted for the slightly bigger model because why not but office space is at a premium. Now I'm happy I stayed with the smaller size because this thing is a monster when it comes to doing its job.It also arrived a day early than scheduled. It took less than a minute to set up and I shredded 2 bin fulls immediately and used the oil as recommended to lubricate the shredding components. Highly Recommended I can see this in my office for years to come. Great to see quality in the office. Purchased the oil to keep blades sharp too.

The safety sensor and and this unit's ability to even go through staples like melted butter is just icing on the cake
Though a bit on the expensive side, this shredder is quite the powerhouse! I've shredded boxes and boxes of paperwork at more pages than advertised without failure. The safety sensor and and this unit's ability to even go through staples like melted butter is just icing on the cake! I love this machine! It's worth every penny...you won't be disappointed!

Very satisfied so far!
Works pretty good so far. I have a love hate relationship with all shredders. They seem to work well for the first year then start dieing fast. This one has a LED bar that shows how hard the shredder is working so I always keep it in the green/yellow (never red).
