Q: How much does each stone weigh?

It varies. Got this for son who just started carving. Combined the 5 stones weighed 2.75 lbs. The largest stone was 12 oz and the smallest was 6 oz.

Q: What are the dimensions (inches) of the average stones? 5 soapstones that combined weigh less than 3 lbs. can't be very large.

There is variation in the stones we received - as is seen in Sculpture House's own photo. The stones we received averaged about 3" wide by 3" long by about 2" thick. Some are very block-like; a couple are wider on top and more narrow on the bottom. They do make nice sized fetish-like carvings.

Q: Is the stone certified asbestos and silica free?

Silica includes a LOT. Most soapstone is primarily talc and based on the color I would say this is high on the magnesium end but beyond that the vendor would have to answer as I have never run a formal analysis on this product and the asbestos and hazard ratings are not discernable without that analysis.

Q: These are two 5 pound blocks right? I carve stone pipes and this is excellent for me.

When I received this item there were five blocks of smaller size. Going off of memory, they were about six inches by four by one and a half or two. I've carved some smaller pipes out of them.
