Gloomy Latest Offering From Deep Silver
Set in a 2030's Russia and based on a dystopian novel of the same bent, I bought this because I originally bought the Metro 2033 rework from the 360 to the xbox1 which was OK and so I expected more from a dedicated console release. My gripe is that despite a more open world feel as opposed to the somewhat linear nature of the 360 rework, the graphics have not really given it too much more in the way of improvement, being too 'dystopian' a feel (it switches between snowy wasteland and gloomy interior and even though set in a post nuclear era, I would think despite that factor, some colour would remain somewhere, everything looks overly 'washed out') and this takes away from the game as a whole in my opinion (it is after all, an entertainment game, there is a bit too much realism in the world at times). The loading as well is at times, incredibly slow. I get its a large content game but look at FarCry5 New Dawn, which achieves more with less. I can regrettably only give 4 stars on this which is maybe on the generous side, with the feeling that Cyberpunk or the new Doom is even more anticipated now.

Brilliant game, slow loading up between levels
Brilliant game. If you've played the previous two Metro games you'd understand why this one felt as heavy as it did, especially towards the end. I saw a review for this game saying it's all cutecenes and no gameplay, that's not exactly true, there's LOADS of game play. Which leads me to my next point, the loading screens when loading a level up are longer than I'd like, which I guess might be because it's such a massive game, but still no one likes having to wait that long. I would have out four and a half stars if I could, but because of that one thing I don't feel I could put exactly 5 stars for it.If you've played the first two Metro games, definitely play it. If you haven't, then okay the first two Metro games then play this. This is one of those games you'd sort of have to understand what's happened in the previous games to understand what happening and why the characters are acting the way they are in the story.

Frustrating controls hold this game back
I unfortunately could not get into this game. I thoroughly enjoyed the remasters of 2033 and Last Light, however something is just not gelling here and it is frustrating. My number 1 issue is the controls. On console they just feel so... clunky and laggy. The traversal around the environment feels incredibly unpolished - Artyom feels like he flies down flights of stairs, and then slows down to a snail’s pace if he’s in a patch of tall grass. It really took me out of enjoying the experience. The stealth does not work well as a result of the stiff movement. The dialogue and line delivery feels very half baked, and everyone is always talking over each other, making conversations hard to listen to.I also think that 30 fps probably does not help, as the other two games were re-released at 60 - the downgrade was jarring for me.Graphically however, it is really well presented. The crafting is good and the weapons are classic Metro style as always so that is something.Such a shame I could not persevere as I was very hyped when it was announced.

Not perfect but definitely worth playing
Interesting concept and part of a post nuclear war narrative. Some beautiful scenery rendering and good character development.Load time especially from start is unusually protracted at least two minutes but in game loading is pretty quick. Some glitches cause game crashes which necessitate restarting the entire Xbox although not common rather annoying. Combat is divided between really cool and ridiculous. You can blast a mutant with a dB shotgun at point blank without harming it but take it down with a thrown knife! In summary a flawed but welcome addition to the FPS stable of games.

BORING BORING BORING
I’ve only been playing this game for about an hour and I’m already bored. During the first hour there was only 15 minutes gaming and 45 minutes of boring narrative that you cannot skip. YAWN YAWN YAWN. This game is destined for the rubbish bin
