No, the key code did not activate registration. National geographic wrote back to tell her that this product is no longer getting evaluated at labs. Last lab reviewed was July 2020.

I do not have any report as yet? Also did not note that report only applies to one side of the family? Anyway, when I get my reportS, might have better view of the product.

Like many people who don't know much about their ancestry, I jumped at the chance to have it tested. Without knowing much about other DNA testing companies, I went with this kit as I saw it in the holiday catalog.First impressions is that the kit is really easy to use and the instructions are clear: just provide two cheek swabs and fill out a card giving your consist etc. The envelope they give you to send back isn't prepaid so you either need to stick 5 stamps on it or take it to a post office.Now, I was frustrated with how long it took to show up in the system. It took more than a month before they had acknowledged that they had received it. I was nervous that it had been lost in the mail and when I called customer service, the representative didn't seem to have any kind of explanation-- she just said that it could take two weeks to show up in the system (even though it had been longer than that). After that, it was updated about every 2 weeks until my results showed up. However, I never received any emails about updates or when my results were posted. I had to log in to see the status.As for the results, I actually found the halpogroup migration most interesting. As a female, I didn't get to look at my paternal migration map which was disappointing (not their fault). I wouldn't, for the price, have bothered to get a male relative to test -- I'm not sure it's worth it just for that. You also get a percentage estimate for any Neanderthal. This 2.0 kit doesn't seem to test for Denisovan percentage like the previous version of the kit.For the actual ancestry part, I was really disappointed. Assuming I'm understanding this correctly, they divide the genetics into regional groups (18 groups I believe) and sort of categorize you that way. I had two problems with this. The first is that there isn't any country breakdown. I have a fair amount of what they call Southern European which they define as being anything from Portgual to Greece. That's a big area to lump together and I was taken by surprise by having and Southern European at all so it would have been nice if it had been a little more specific. The other problem I have is that my results seemed to fit just a little too cleanly into their regional categories -- almost down to the percentage. It's entirely possible that I just happen to represent a regional category perfectly, but I'm not so confident in that especially since it contradicts what I actually do know about where my family comes from. Because of this, I actually have started testing with two other companies to try to make sense of it.In all, this isn't a bad place to start if you're interested in testing your DNA, but just don't expect to have a super detailed and specific report on your ancestry. I don't regret taking the test and it's actually really interesting. I happened to have the opportunity to test with other companies, but if you could only pick one, I would recommend doing a lot of research first.

It was easy to take the saliva swab sample and send it in. However, it took over 3 months (they say 10 weeks) and the results were less than interesting. They put too many countries into a group (like mine was 79% "Western European" - which ones I want to know), 17% Scandanavian, etc. It needs to be more specific. There were also no pie charts and the download function was disabled - said "page could not be found." This kit was almost $200. When I did my research, this kit had the highest rating. It must have been done by natgeo employees because I would rate this towards the bottom. Now I have to pay another $200 for 23and me - which apparently gives better, more detailed results. Even Ancestry's kit seems to have better results. I also know my maternal great grandmother was full blooded Choctaw Indian but it didn't show any of that anywhere in this test. Just Western European, etc. For the money, the results should have been more detailed. Especially from National Geographic. VERY disappointed.

This test kit was less than impressive as the results were too generic. For the cost, I expected a pinpointed analysis of my heritage, which I did not receive. My recommendation is to try other test kits first.
