ZOJIRUSHIEF-VSC40 1300-Watt Electric Gourmet Roaster

Zojirushi products are amazing! I love the roaster I used it for salmon and it comes out very crispy. Also did Yakitori and it was amazing. A bit pricing compared to what is sold in Japan.But I love it easy to clean and use as well. No smoke or no smell.

High points:• Better tasting fish due to direct heating from top and bottom in close proximity to the fish• Less smell due to full lid and vent with filter• Low smoke due to water tray to catch drippings• Works really well for oily fish like mackerel, salmon, black cod• Easy to disassemble and clean, no need to wipe down the kitchen afterwardsVery easy to use. Fill the drip tray with some water, preheat the roaster, put the fish in for desired time and that’s it! The roaster has top and bottom heating elements so there isn’t as much of a need to turn the fish and risk breaking it up, but since you can only set a timer, not temperature, you may want turn to insure even cooking since the top heating element sits closer to the fish than the bottom one. I have never had an issue with flareups like one of the reviewers, but I don’t apply a lot of oil or marinades to my fish – maybe that was the cause. Since it is fully lidded with only a small vent with a filter at the top, very little of fish smell comes out of the unit unlike cooking it over the stove. I normally put the unit on a cookie sheet on the stove and turn on the range hood. Any fish smell coming out of the vent goes right out of the house.Clean up is really easy. The bottom tray, drip pan and grill pulls away from the heating element and the base so you can carry it to the sink and wash it. The top comes apart similar to the bottom but has a few more latches to remove the individual pieces. The heating elements can be wiped down after they cool. I clean mine after each use so it still looks as good as new after owning it for 2 years. I’m not sure what some of these other people do to theirs for it to rust. . .Very happy with the purchase. It allowed me to enjoy cooking and eating fish again.

This is a beautiful appliance. Easy to use and cooks food perfectly. Pay attention to the packaging notes when opening up. They show where tape is to be removed when unpacking. They do a great job of packing and explaining things.I cooked Salmon the first night. I added lemon olive oil and spices. No skin or bones. I set the timer for 12 minutes. It was thick salmon. Turned out excellent! Very moist. Make sure water is added to the plastic tray when using.Next night boneless/skinless chicken breasts. Set the timer for 15 minutes after first preheating for 2 minutes. Olive oil and spices. Best chicken breasts I’ve ever made. Moist with a slight crisp on both sides. Cooked to perfection. No pink.This is one impressive appliance. It has made me set my air fryer to the back of the counter.I also own a Zojirushi Rice Cooker. I am very impressed with their products.There are no temperature settings on this roaster but it doesn’t seem to make a difference in cooking.Tonight I will try steak but I will set the timer less then the suggested setting so I will get a red center.This item is easy to clean. Wipe the burners off after it cools down so you won’t get any smoke. Which, by the way, there was absolutely none! Besides the first heating out of the package. There is also no odors.Everything comes apart for cleaning and the spatula that comes with it is genius!This is a keeper.

This fish roaster does wonders! Works well and there is very little smell of fish in the house after cooking! The product is pricey, however you get what you paid for: a great roaster that will cook the fish to perfection!

I got this because I saw somewhere that this would lessen the fish smell when cooking fish. Well it does grill fish nicely but because of the vents there will still be smell and I didn't see a big difference from using a pan and lid on a stove to cook fish compared to this. Now one thing ! be careful when using this. The burners are on the top lid and bottom but there very little space between the burners and the stray where you lay the fish. One of the fish almost caught fire because it part of the fish touched the bottom burner. You need to watch it close and keep an eye on it. As for the product, this is nice and works well but not sure if I would spend the almost $200 I paid for this. Just use a pan with lid on stove.
