I feel safer carrying this, I haven’t had to use it but my behaviorist suggested this and educated me on the drawbacks of pepper spray (including the fact that it can aggravate dogs even more) and I won’t go out without this now. It’s also supposed to be a coyote deterrent. Now that’s important, as we have plenty of coyotes around too. Anything to protect the baby, I’m all about it.

This product has so far proved affective at getting dogs to leave us alone and makes me feel a lot more confident when out with my reactive dog!My dog doesn't like other dogs, I make sure he has leash sleeves/signs warning that he doesn't like dogs coming near him, but unfortunately that doesn't stop owners letting their dog run up to him while he freaks out, usually accompanied by shouts of "don't worry, they're friendly!" (that doesn't mean they're friendly when another dog is doing everything in their power to get them to leave him alone), so having this spray is great for some of these dogs who just will not take no for an answer and who have no desire to listen to their owners attempts to call them back after being warned my dog isn't friendly.I've only actually had to use it once, but the dog was ignoring their owners calls, would not back away with my pushing them back, shouting at them, and was completely oblivious to the fact my dog did not want to be friends, but a quick spray to the face sent them running off back to their owner without further trauma to either dog.

I've used these before, so I knew what I was getting already. If you live in an area where there are a lot of strays or wild animals, I suggest carrying one of these with you.

My dog was attacked while we were walking and I had such a hard time getting the other dog off of him. I purchased this citronella based "pepper spray" to be ready for next time.It uses the very strong concentration of citronella mixed with an accelerant as opposed to the capsaicin used in regular pepper spray. As I understand it should repel the dog with the strong spell as opposed to burning the eyes and skin. This was very important to me because if I'm forced to use it in the future I would hate to actually hurt either dog but especially my pup who's just walking along politely on his leash.The can has a belt clip which is how I carry it; either through a belt loop, pants pocket, or just over the waist band of jogging shorts or yoga pants. I think you could use it on a lanyard too but I would not want to have to fuss with getting it off over my head at the critical moment nor would I want to deploy the spray when it was that close to my own face.I'm hoping I never have to use it but if I do I'm hoping this product will do the job so I don't have to step up the pepper spray.
