I think it would keep the sandwich warm, but I think the sandwich would get a little soggy from the moisture trapped in the container. Lasagna would be okay. Beans and rice would be okay.

does this jar have plastic or steel on the inside of the lid? meaning will food come in contact with plastic of the lid if i fill it to the top?

Top is plastic but food does not come in cantact as you will not fill it to the top to touch the lid. Inside is stainless steel. Very good, We are averse to plastic as well. Pack lunch for the kids everyday in this.
