Smoked Shoyu Soy Sauce (750 ml) Aged 2 Years - Authentic Japanese Artisanal Umami Seasoning Sauce with Unique Smoky Flavor

This is a traditional small batch Japanese soy sauce. As such, it's pricey by comparison to commercial store brands, but so worth it! You don't just taste salt, instead you get layered flavors of umami & subtle smokiness. While the smokey aspect is subtle, it's there & adds a wonderful flavor dimension. A little goes a long way, so start with a smaller amount as you can always add more. If you aren't satisfied with store brands, this sauce is for you! Great with sushi! Amazon needs to add an extra piece of tape across the top of the cap to ensure it doesn't come loose/break during shipping.

I spent a few days cooking and using this “Smokey Soy” before writing this review. I did a comparison to another store bought version of this at 1/3 the price. It was fairly unpleasant and not as robust or savory as this. I did end up tossing out the inferior store bought brand due to its poor quality and endless list of additives. I’m impressed on the thickness and flavor of this. It has a true smoke flavor yet it’s subtle. It literally made the things I enjoy taste even better. Though this is a little pricey, I believe you get what you pay for here so the value is still very good. This is a must for anyone’s kitchen. Excellent when making teriyaki sauce , marinades or any other uses you may have in your cooking. The best way to store this is in a cool dark place (cupboard or pantry) away from heat in it’s original container. Keep away from heat or appliances. Color may get darker with time and should last you a long time (2-3 years opened) with proper care. If you refrigerate this (as I do) be sure to always refrigerate and use only what you need and avoid temperature fluctuations. I will ALWAYS keep this in stock. What a wonderful find.

Pretty good smoke flavoring and shoyu quality. Overall a good buy for the money.

This is the best tasting soy sauce I've tried. Much better than super market brands. I've also tried some very expensive ones from Amazon costing as much as 48.00 for a bottle. Those were very very salty. They were more salt than soy. Not impressed for that kind of money. This Shoyu brand is very flavorful. Not too salty. I found myself reaching for it and putting more and more on my food without overwhelming the dish. The smoke is very subtle and please don't let that sway you, it adds another layer of flavor. This Brand also makes a plain soy as well if you're not a fan of a smoke. It's a pretty big bottle and about as much as I want to spend on soy sauce. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

I was brought up on Ki…well, the store brand, and never thought much about it. Then read one of those “50 things where quality makes a difference” lists and went for this shoyu. Did a double blind tasting with my partner and there was zero (0) question. We now keep a bottle of this on hand always. Can never go back. I like this flavor. Also tried the sweeter one, but it was too sweet for my taste, at least in recipes that I think of for soy sauce. YMMV.

If you want and appreciate flavor, you should try this. But I warn you that after trying it, you won't see the "K..." brand soy sauce the same way. It has more flavor than salt. The lid seals very well and lasts months in the refrigerator without quality degradation. After 4 bottles over 5 years, I know it is a great item to have on-hand.
