Really neat sundial compass combo. I give it five stars for the quality, appearance and functionality of this item at the price it comes at. Sure you could spend more and possibly find one more appealing but not at this price. It’s totally worth it. It’s not cheap and cheesy like I thought it might be. Perfect for a gift or for yourself. The leather case that it comes with is also cool looking. Would look great on any desk or coffee table.

Beautiful sundial compass! Bought this as a white elephant gift for our pirate Krewe! The gentleman who won it fell in love with this and added to his pirate collection! It’s unique and great for the price!

I bought this as a gift for a good friend retiring and taking to the waters for a year. It was heavy duty and beautiful. I didn't use it but he has been very pleased with it. I can attest to the quality and craftsmanship as being well made.

This was a gift for my son, who is a sailor, and an artist. He appreciated the beauty and the box. He is connected to London by his work and his father is British, from a London family. It is a great gift item!

If for no other reason, this is a nice decor item quality made.

In general, this device was well made and the calibrations appeared reasonably accurate. The gnomon is supposed to have a stop to prevent it from moving beyond a vertical position, but this did not work. Not a big deal, because you can eyeball it and make sure it is vertical before you take a reading. I've taken time readings from it a number of times. The readings have to be adjusted by the amount your longitude is east or west of the central longitude for your time zone, for the "equation of time," which you will need to look up, and finally for Daylight Saving Time if it is in effect. Sometimes it is accurate to within a couple of minutes, other times, it is off by as much as 20 minutes. Accuracy decreases in the late afternoon, for some reason. Obviously you would not use this as a substitute for your Apple Watch, but it is fun to take readings and imagine how a similar instrument might have been used by a mariner in past centuries.

As others have said, this is more than worth the money. The quality is exceptional, and arrived packaged with care and well protected. Absolutely outstanding, particularly for the price. Highly, highly recommend.

My nephew just graduated high school and is going to be traveling then college. He is a tinker kind of person and immediately got the compass working. Loved the arm for telling time and the case is a great touch. Life time keeper.
