Q: How long is this strap?

Lengths vary depending on which web site you visit. The length is listed anywhere from 43" to 48". When fully extended the length of the strap probably might possibly be 47" +/- 1"

Q: Received with adjustment slides reversed. Hampers use and slide too tight to twist. Normal?

I doubt the slides are "backwards". My guess is that you installed the strap upside down or twisted. It took me a bit of staring at the strap to get it figured out. Without the ability to exchange pictures it's a bit hard to describe, but my strap installed with the top of the adjustment slide pointing away from the camera as I would have expected.
