Great upgrade from my Yakima MegaJoe Elite 3!
For many years, I used my MegaJoe Elite 3 to carry 1-2 bikes. I am short and have smaller bikes and this old model was too wide for my bike frames. The support arms sat too far apart and I had to angle my bike in an awkward way to get it to fit without a top tube. Since I angled it awkwardly, I would only be able to fit 2 bikes on it and the other bike could not sit awkwardly but had to sit perfectly straight. Also, the old bike rack made it sit too close to my trunk and would allow the front wheels to hit if I put the bike on the closest rack to the trunk, so I wouldn’t use that one. Well, after many years, the twisting mechanism stopped turning and now it’s jammed in a position that isn’t meant for my car and useless. I contacted Yakima and they gave me a 40% coupon, but even with the coupon, it was more expensive than here on Amazon. So I bought it here instead. This new bike rack fits beautifully and looks luxurious! I love that you can put the arms down when they’re not in use (unlike my old rack). It comes with numbers on the twisting mechanical that allow you to look up the fitment instructions on Yakima’s website. For my 2018 accord, I had to leave the top hooks on the inside of the trunk. Definitely read the instructions on that. The support arms are more narrow on this model vs my old one, I now no longer have to angle my bike awkwardly. I will attach the old one vs the new bike rack. I didn’t fully strap down the handles as they should but this was just for me to test before going in a bike ride the following day. Downside is that it is so heavy. It took me about an hour to figure out how to first put it on. I honestly struggled more just because of how heavy it was. So for the first time, an extra set of hands can help you.

Love it!
We bought this bike rack for our car, and we love it! Our family has used it several times already, and it’s been such a help. We really like that it’s not a permanent fixture it attaches easily and securely, and holds all our bikes without shaking or shifting. It feels sturdy and high quality, and we can get it on the car in about 15 minutes. The only thing to note is that we can’t open the trunk while it’s on, but that’s not a big deal for us since we usually just head to the park and back. But so far the value of this bike rack for the money you spent as good and it has not damaged our car which is brand new so we’re very happy about that. Overall, it’s super convenient and perfect for trips. I’d definitely recommend it!

A Very Good Bike Rack
This is a very good bike rack. It was given 4 stars instead of 5 due to a couple of drawbacks that were minor to me. For reference, I have the 2 bike version and I installed it on a 2013 Toyota Venza crossover vehicle. It carried one men”s and one woman's bike, and the woman's bike had an inexpensive crossbar installed which was necessary in my case. Once properly installed, it was all very sturdy with little swaying. This rack is quite sturdy and does not require assembly. I found the installation quite easy, partly because I have used trunk mounted racks before and they all go on in a similar way. Once the rack is adjusted for a vehicle it does not have to be readjusted, so the extra time spent in the initial installation (setting strap length, learning where to set the hooks) is not repeated. The four mounting straps only need to be slipped on and tightened properly. It is important to not have the rack rest on the bumper once loaded with bikes in order to avoid denting the bumper. This is accomplished by tightening the upper straps. The minor drawbacks were the rack’s weight and the built in bike lock system. The rack weighs a bit over 20 pounds, a tad weighty but as it seems quite sturdy that appears to be a tradeoff. The built in lock however is annoying as the cable length is quite short-I could only secure the bike located on the outside that is near the lock, with some maneuvering. If you are carrying only one bike, as it must be placed on the inside slot nearest the vehicle the built in cable will not reach, so either use your own cable and lock then looped into the built in system, or buy their extended length cable lock. There are some other nice features. The rack can be secured to the trunk with a strap to help prevent theft, and the bars holding the bikes can be folded down and out of the way when not in use. The inclination of the rack is easily and securely adjusted with a click lock system in order to fit different vehicles, similarly for the bike mounting bars. There is also a system for tucking away the extra strap length. Overall this is a very good bike rack which I am happy with.

Very impressed!
Bought a used one on Amazon. The box was trashed but the rack was in great shape. A few scuffs and a little dirty but no biggie. I use it for my Alfa Romeo Tonale and Dodge Hornet RT. They don’t have a tow hitch so I was limited to only a handful of options. My bike is a 45lbs e mountain bike and the 35lbs max per bike I think is underrated. No issues. This rack performs much better than the Saris and Bell I bought prior and returned. This one is heavy duty. The Bell’s quality was much lower and the bikes moved around a lot. Plus the straps kept loosening up. The Saris quality is excellent but the curved angle to load the bikes on my suv was impossible to lift. It’s probably better for a sedan. This Yakima is perfect so far, and I went on the highway over 70 today. The Bell that I had on for about two months I’d never take over 50 and avoided highways. I also like how this 3 bike rack is more spread out than the Bell. I can keep the bikes separated more. I also like how this rack can be adjusted upright. It’s really easy to adjust the height level.

CX 5 problems and solutions
I used this rack on a 2017 Mazda CX 5 for a 10 hour drive into the North Carolina mountains, with 3 mountain bikes on it. My car did get dents at the bottom, but I don't believe it was the fault of the rack. A nice man tightened the straps during a gas stop, and after that my car got dented. My recommendations: to secure the bottom straps, don't use the metal rings at the side of the trunk cargo, just let the anchor hooks rest on the cargo floor, following the install directions. Pay CLOSE attention to the placement of the bottom bar foam (where he says "a good fit looks like this" in the video); the bottom of the foam shouldn't be resting on any surface. For my car, definitely place it in the license plate well. Tighten the top straps to get the bottom foam into the correct position, then tighten the bottom straps. We had a hard time just getting the bars up and getting the hub selection. When you rotate the center dial, it stops and requires a little more pressure to continue to the unlocked position. When mounting the bikes, don't pay attention to the orientation of the chain on the first bike, go by the orientation of the stabilization mount to the bike. I threaded the stabilization strap through all three bikes to prevent the wheels from spinning. Also, the security strap to prevent the rack from being stolen: I couln't thread it through the gap of my trunk, it was too thick. I'll try again when I'm not in a hurry. It rained hard while the bikes were mounted and I had no water leaking into the cargo area (I guess because that gap is nonexistent!). I have to say, on the way home I felt very comfortable with the rack. I didn't need to tighten the straps, even after they got wet. I do think one person can easily install. I held the rack up with my body while I threaded the top straps, then I could do the bottom straps while the rack was being held with the top straps. I think the materials are good quality. If the zip clips break, I think it would be from not pulling them out straight. I had one bike that had an unusual bar, but it fit fine. I had no damage to my headliner or cargo area. I was traveling only with two 15 year olds so this install and trip was high anxiety for me. I hope this review helps someone else who is freaking out. This is a good purchase, I can't imagine a better rack.

Sturdy and functional
I will preface this by saying this bike rack is not meant for beach cruisers, especially women's. That being said, there didn't seem to be ANY bike racks for beach cruisers that fit on a car without a tow hitch, so I made this purchase. After a considerable amount of time spent trying to find the appropriate configuration of the straps for my Toyota Highlander (which I mostly blame myself for, not their website, it was actually pretty obvious once I found it), and some slight apprehension about my car's spoiler due to some reviews about damage to spoilers, I followed the steps in the instructions provided and within about 10-15 minutes on my first try had it securely installed. It feels very sturdy, did not damage my car at all, and did carry two women's beach cruisers (though they have to be strapped in at weird angles) such that we did not worry at all about them on the drive. I think as long as you find the right configuration for your vehicle and pay attention to the steps and pictures re installation, there's really not much room for error. I am very happy with this purchase and look forward to getting my bikes to the beach much more frequently!

Excellent value for the money; well-crafted and easy on the vehicle... but what about a 3rd bike?
Incredibly easy to attach to my car... excellent online direction for perfect fit to my Subaru. I've tried roof racks and was never comfortable with the security of the bikes or the chance to damage the roof with the on and off mounting. I've been on a handful of trips with this system now, and I can say that it is secure and non-damaging to the exterior of my car (I did protect my spoiler with a Styrofoam, form-fitting pipe cover). I also like how it dismounts easily if I need to... although, I will have to say - it doesn't look bad on the car by itself with the support arms lowered. Now... why I gave it 3 of 5 stars: it's meant for three bikes but I can't see it. I've place two on there and they fit comfortably. With three bikes, someone's baby is going to get scratched and scarred (we bicyclists really want our treasures unscathed). If there is a way to do this, Yakima, send me a link. It looks like it could be a trainwreck.
