Scattered yet Satisfying
While I enjoyed the final season of Brothers and Sisters, I have to admit that the one word I would use to describe it, is "scattered."Things changed drastically during season 5. The show lost two of its main characters (Robert and Rebecca) which left their counterparts (Kitty and Justin) with completely new story lines. Kitty's was by far the most random of the story lines. She was not so much the focal point of this season as she had been in previous ones, and with all of the unusual experiences they had Kitty doing, it was almost as if her character had no direction. This seemed to be the theme throughout the majority of the Walker clan. A lot of quick and insignificant plots occurred throughout season 5, which almost made it feel as though the writers had no idea where to take the series. They would just throw things in the season which were unnecessary and had no bearing on the over all show. The story arch of the season, while interesting, was definitely something that had just been thrown together. I don't feel that the drama of this season was up to par with previous seasons, but it didn't make me love the show any less, it just made it feel like a completely different series. The final episode, while heartwarming and emotional, felt more like the end of a season rather then the end of the series. Luckily, it didn't really leave many questions unanswered. You pretty much knew where each character was headed and it was satisfying.Ultimately, I think the loss of Robert really hurt the show. Justin's character could survive without Rebecca as it seemed like their relationship had really run its course, but there just seemed to be something seriously lacking without Robert because that meant there was a lot missing with Kitty. Tommy was randomly brought back for a couple of episodes, but his appearance with his new girlfriend seemed more like it was about finding away to introduce the Brody story line. Tommy, again, had no significance to this season. Ultimately, I feel it was Sarah and Nora's story lines that really saved this season and made it interesting. Kevin and Scotty had some interesting plots, but their adventure into parenting often made their story lines seem like an episode of Full House.Essentially, this season did not feel so much like we were watching the Walker clan then it did feel like we were just following the individual arcs of each character. They didn't feel as tightly wound as in previous episodes, but, again, the 5th season served its purpose and I think it definitely knew when to end.

The 5th and Final Season
During the german TV has cancled "Brothers & Sisters" after only 10 episodes of the first season I bought now all 5 season on amazon.com. Except of "Desperate Housewives" this is one of the most interesting drama series with a outstanding / sensational Cast: Sally Field, Luke MacFarlane, Matthew Rhys... to call only a few of them. I was shocked when I heard the show cancled. So I was a little bit scared to watching the 5th season - because I don't want believe it would be the end after. The show has: very good dialogues and very good acting. The best scene are between Matthew Rhys and Luke MacFarlane during a fighten of their relationship. Its really heartbreaking. I truly cried and got tears. The same happened in the 3rd last episodes when Ron Rifkins character is reading a letter of his mother. It's very emotional. And of course at the end of the final episode.Kevin and Scotty are the most interesting gay couple on TV without to falling in any gay-clichรจ and I really would like to see a sort of spin-off of both (like in any internet-forum are debating about that both moving to New York, open a new Restaurant, new friends etc.) But well... just a thoughts. As guest and returning we will see one time again Balthazar Getty as Tommy and again in a few episodes Ken Olin (where is also the producer of the show) including Patricia Wettig (where is also his real-life wife). As special guest we will see Richard Chamberlain as Jonathan and Beau Bridges as Brody.New cuties for a 2 episodes: Robert Kazinsky as Rick and for 4 episodes: Jeremy Davidson (from "Army Wives" and "Pan Am")THE DVD:Picture quality (Widescreen 1.78:1) and Sound (Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound) are again very good. The serie is subtitled in english, french and spanishBonus-Features: Deleted Scenes, Bloopers & Outtakes, Gilles Marini: UNcovered, Writing for the Walkers (running only a few minutes between 5 and 10 minutes) plus any Audio-Commentaries.FAZIT: very emotional, heartbreaking and also funny serie - I WILL MISS THE WALKERS (specially Kevin & Scotty)

Ensemble Drama that challenges the watcher
Season 5 begins one year after the horrendous collision that occurred at the end of season 4. Robert is being kept on life-support in a vegetative state while Kitty dithers about pulling the plug. Holly suffered memory loss and does not even recall her own identity. As the season starts Justin returns from yet a third tour of duty in Afghanistan, a decision that led to his his wife divorcing him. Nora meanwhile tries out for and lands a gigue as a radio advice commentator--Dear Mum. Sarah has made $50 million on the lakeland property and is trying to decide to marry her French Artist Boyfriend, Saul and Scottie are running a restaurant while his partner Kevin runs a pro bono law clinic and the pair look to adopt. Tommy is still shiftless and flits in and out. Kittie takes on a college teaching position and starts up an affair with a young stud who works at the local coffee bar and proves to be the Deanโs Son. Does it all sound familiar?Somehow the season gets off to a slow start especially since the jump in time leads to some confusion. New characters and old flames get introduced. Confidentiality is an impossibility in this family where the telephone and conference calls play a key role in their lives. They may not always like one another but thereโs no denying their love. The season ends with an episode punningly entitled Walker Down the Aisle. Given the number of loose ends we are left with it would appear the show was not renewed while on hiatus. At least we are not left with any startling cliff-hangers.

Finale to a charming series
A really engaging ending to the tale of the Walkers and their friends and relations. Brilliant acting, sympathetic (and some not so) characters leave you fully engaged and wanting for more. It's the Waltons updated with sex and politics and power struggles.

Brothers and Sisters
My fascination for Brothers and Sisters has continued since the beginning, becoming completely hooked as I started to find myself more and more intrigued with the characters who became almost like my own family. The storylines evolved each episode making it quite easy to simply watch one without knowing the previous few as the recap explained what you needed to know. The laughter honesty of relationships ups and downs and the heart breaking mishaps of life happened to each character with a openess which allowed the viewer to feel connected with them all. This final series 5, in my opinion, didn't quite match up to previous seasons as I felt it was being rushed without using the rawness of the loss of a loved one on all the family not just the wife... However I still felt the companionship and love that they have always brought to me and will miss the series very much.

Great finale to this series
As a fan of the previous 4 seasons I was delighted to watch the final season. This servies was never very realistic but that for me was the draw. Fans who like happy endings will enjoy this especially if you are a sucker for a "happy ever after" like me. One or two relationships left sort of loose but I don't think I would want any further series as not much left for this family and their relations to get up to! Definately worth watching if you were a fan of the previous 4 seasons

Best Final Season ever?
I'm a big fan of the whole series and, although I hate to see it finish, this was a final season to be proud of... possibly even the best season full stop despite losing some favourite characters.I especially love Holly's arc in this season... it really tugs at the heartstrings and makes you begin to love Holly as one of the family (very dificult to do with her duplicitous past)The only thing I could fault it on is that this series should have gone forever!!!!

brothers & sisters series 5
I had looked forward to watching this last series. It certainly held up to its previous series. All the family reunited and some excellent episodes. Wonderful acting, and great story lines. Sorry it is the last series, I did hear somewhere there might be a series six, so I am hopeful. If you have never watched any of these series before, then I can fully recommend excellent tv.
