I'm pretty pleased by this widget. It has a lot of functions and it seems to do them all remarkably well...a flashlight? You bet, and it's bright. A radio? Pretty darned strong, it picks up stations my high tech Sangean has issues grabbing. And it has the NOAA weather band too. Tres cool! Self powered? Yes, and yes, by crank or via a solar cell. I'm not convinced on its supposed ability to charge a phone in a pinch, but it hasn't come to that and I hope it doesn't. All this said, my daily bag has a new item inside it, and it's likely this remarkable little widget (light weight too!) will end up in my hiking pack too. Nice job!ADDENDUM, April 29 2017: Be VERY VERY careful when charging this item via USB! Be aware that the USB plug only goes in so far and if you press it too far you will BREAK the port, and it will no longer be able to charge via USB! Global Mission was cool enough to replace this, but it was not mentioned in the (rather sparse) manual and I would hate for anyone to have to replace theirs. These really are cool little widgets and the radio is surprisingly powerful, especially the AM, with which I have even done a little night time DXing, bringing in stations from hundreds of miles away.

When I first got this I gave it a full charge and set the three radio bands to the stations I wanted, then put it up to be ready for an emergency.Almost a full year later along comes hurricane Irma, so I get out the radio and give it another full charge and check that the radio stations I wanted were still tuned in so I'd be ready should I lose power. I never lost power but being blind I used the radio to get the NOAA broadcasts because they were the most meaningful to me of all the weather broadcasts.I discovered that over the next couple of hours the radio could get fewer and fewer stations until it couldn't receive any. Thinking that the battery life was quite a bit shorter than advertised, I plugged it in to recharge it, but even after it had a full charge the radio still couldn't receive a single station on any of the bands, making it just useless garbage, which is where it went!

Love this! I bought it as a gift for my dad but we have had to use it many times when the power when out and we love it! Unfortunate we live in the stick so its hard to pick up any stations but there are a few and its just enough to keep us sane and we love that we've been able to charge our cell phones.

gave these as gifts they charge phones wind up for radio .. great flashlight rip chord you have to understand how ot use that for emergency situations every hing is good. it has instructions came in brown box and great time in transit ..

Just pulled it out of the box and used it for a couple of minutes. Easy to operate and quite the nifty little gadget. Perfect size to take backpacking, bicycling or keep in the car. I haven't tried charging my phone; but am happy to have that option in case of emergency. Thinking about purchasing a couple more for gifts. Thanks!

Good radio. Charge doesn't last as long as expected. Can boost your cell for emergency call, but that's about all.
