Urth82mm ND2-32 Variable ND Lens Filter (Plus+) — 1-5 Stop Range, Ultra-Slim 20-Layer Nano-Coated Neutral Density Filter for Cameras

The ND2 – ND32 (2 – 5 stop) variable ND filter is an essential filter for capturing outdoor video footage, and the Urth variable ND filter is perfect for this.The build quality of the Urth ND filter is top quality. It is well machined, it feels nice to use and the two elements move smoothly with just the right amount of resistance. Adjusting the strength of the ND effect requires a little effort, which means I don’t unintentionally change the settings, but not so much effort I jolt my set up. A big problem with many variable ND filters is the cross polarisation effect, i.e. the dreaded X effect. The Urth variable ND filter has hard stops at each end and the dreaded X effect is not a problem. Another problem with variable ND filters is the loss of image quality increases as the ND effect gets stronger. The Urth variable ND filter does suffer from this but the loss in image quality is negligible and I am happy using it across the entire range from 2 stops all the way through to the full 5 stops.Vignetting and colour casts are other issues that often affect variable ND filters, and the Urth variable ND filters controls these very well. There is slight vignetting at 4 and 5 stops however this is easily corrected using editing software. Similarly, there is a slight colour cast at 4 and 5 stops but this is also easily corrected in post.There are markings on the Urth variable ND filter to give some indication of the strength of the ND effect but these are pretty academic since I set the aperture, set the shutter speed, set the ISO and then turn the filter until I get the correct exposure.The Urth variable ND filters aren’t the cheapest around and you can spend less on other brands. That said there are times when it is worth spending a bit more and buying variable ND filters is one of those times.Overall, the Urth variable ND filters are highly recommended.

Gotta be honest, I'm a real fan of the Gobe / Urth range of products. The Urth 72mm ND2-32 (1-5 Stop) Variable ND Lens Filter (Plus+) hasn't missed a beat and performed as I expected.I'd be more than happy to purchase again should I need to.

I bought this filter to use with my Sony SEL18200 and SEL70350 e-mount lenses. It generally gives a good image quality, although when the sun is at certain angles there were light steaks on the images. Unfortunately, the width of the filter is such that the included Sony lens hoods will not pass over it. If I attach the filter first, then I cannot attach the lens hoods with their bayonet mounts. If I attach the lens hoods first, then I find it almost impossible to screw in the filter as the clearance is very small. However I have overcome this drawback by purchasing a suitable Veatree lens hood, which screws into the filter.

Came in a nice protective case not a plastic one and it does the job :-) I'm happy with it.

Superb quality. No issues whatsoever and my images are still pin sharp

This VND filter is epic for the cost, had a full day filming with it at the weekend and even with shooting into the harsh sun, no colour casting or vignetting. Even more awesome to know your planting trees while getting awesome content

As per title, this was my main issue with cheap VND. This one doesn't seem to have any vignette or X even on my 16mm lens

URTH variable ND filters may not have the glamorous names of some much much more expensive competitors but they are very well made, packaged in a convenient tin and recyclable card, and the company has excellent green credentials which means a lot, and their filters offer excellent performance at a great saving. This is my third in a variety of sizes, for convenience. Highly recommended.
