I put it in water proof box and caulked the holes where the cables went through.

An ohm meter would indicate an open circuit on the center conductor.

Is the gas tube replaceable?

Yes, it uses standard gas cartridge, there is a large screw on one side to access it.

are the lengths of thread equal on both sides, or in the picture it looks like one side is longer?I need the exact lengths

They are not nearly the same length. As shown in the pictures, one end has probably three times as many threads as the other. There is no reason to assume that the exact lengths of mine would be the same as what they would ship to you. Besides which, mine is currently weatherproofed and in-use. I'm not about to tear that apart for a measurement.
