One of the BEST books I have ever read!
I bought this book for my 8 year old daughter on the day it was released. She loved it so much she wanted to write a review. After such a glowing review from her I had to start reading the Ability myself. I am glad I took her advice. The book is excellent! Here is my daughter's review:The Ability is about a young boy named Chris whose father has died and he lives with his mother. Chris gets a test from a lady named Miss Sonata to see if he had a power called The Ability. So he and 5 other kids named Lexi, Rex, Sabastion, Phillip, and Daisy have been chosen. They go to a boarding school called Myers Holt. That's were they learned telekinesis, how to read minds, how to block people reading their minds, and how to make other peoples thoughts. But they better look out because somebody is using inferno which is a very bad thing to do with your ability. Will anyone make it alive or not?One of my favorite parts was when Lexi used telekinesis on Daisy wich lifted her up by the leg. My favorite characters would have to be Ron and John. You should really read the book because from the very first word I was so interested. It was amazing! Some parts made me cry, some parts made me laugh, and some parts made me happy. This story made me wish that this whole story was true and I could go to Myers Holt!

Ability is temporary. Adventure and excitement wispy
I expected something much different than is present in this story. I purchased it to read with my two grandsons, ages 10 and 8, and was disappointed. This is less interesting and much more detailed than they would ordinarily read. They like to be instantly drawn into adventure and excitement. If adventure is what your reader is looking for, consider some other book. This one had adventure but it was much too slow and drawn out. I didn't think they would find it exciting, either. I slogged through it on my own but I know my grandsons would be bored before finishing chapter one. Too bad. The author writes with style, the premise is okay but not terribly exciting, and the conclusion leaves the door wide open for at least one sequel. I wish I could give this book more stars. Maybe kids older than my grandsons will enjoy it better.

For "Kids" of all Ages
Does anyone else think that young adult authors have it going on right now? I read a lot of different authors and for my money, the best writing out there right now is coming from kid and young adult authors. This new book from MM Vaughn is no exception. It's full of pre-teen fun, wonderful imagery, and a healthy dose of magic, just from the main characters being able to access all of their brain power for one year. Sound intriguing? It ends with the reader already anxiously awaiting the next installment. CAN'T WAIT!

The ability
Phenomenal book. Can't wait to begin mindscape. I know it may sound weird but a couple needs to be formed. I see John and ron as a wonderful couple. But I really would love to see Chris and Phillip become a thing. I enjoyed this book and M.M. Vaughan please make this a huge series. I promise to buy everyone of those books. :)

Not just for kids!
I don't normally read children's books and, no, I haven't even read any of the Harry Potter books, so I was surprised to find I was hooked from the first paragraph.MM Vaughn has created characters that are diverse, colorful and quirky. What I loved the most was that, despite the core fantasy theme in the book, MM Vaughn injects a lots of realism. Bravely, she doesn't give the twelve year-old protagonist in the story, Chris, a Hollywood style ending. It totally works. My only criticism is that it is quite dark, fine for me, and for older readers, but I'm not really sure it's a book for eight year olds - I think 10+.Coming back to the Harry Potter mania, which totally escaped me, I can now see how adults could love a story told for children. This one is awesome!

Amazing story, makes you feel like a kid again!
This is a great story, full of that magical child like essence you used to get when reading books such as Enid Blyton's 'The Famous Five' or even the 'Harry Potter' series. A must read for both children and adults. A+

Brilliant
This is a brilliant read and would be suitable for older readers too. Great characters who you really can believe in and a real page turner - I needed to know what was going to happen next. I highly recommend this book and can't wait for the next from this author.
