The answer from Matt G. is correct for a back-up light. Remember for 12v with this product the white should be ground (- or negative). The red & black wires are both + or positive for what ever application you are using. To test, use a standard 9v battery and test the wires for LED polarity (to see what lights the LED's.)

These are 2 1/2 inches tall and 6 1/2 inches long.

Q: Are these light submersible for a boat trailer application?

Sure can. I have them on my boat trailer and I never unplug the trailer lights from tow vehicle.

Q: Are LEDs angled to point up/down & left/ right, or pretty much flat so mostly a spot beam (which not desirable in a backup light)?

The light from these lights is not concentrated or aimed one direction or another. It floods the area with white light so you can see and be seen. I've been very pleased with them. If you plan on using them on a boat trailer as I do, you will want to reinforce all seams with silicone or something similar to assure the water repellency.
