The David Walker Appeals
This book should be required reading in all elementary schools, high schools and universities. It is a part of history... not just African American history, but American history.David Walker boldly addressed the human issues of his time and of all times. Although he was addressing the African American slaves and slave masters and slavery as an institution, his words cut through to all humans levels of existence... that precious and benevolent characteristic of just being human. David Walker's Appeal David Walker's Appeal: To the Coloured Citizens of the World David Walker preached like many of the Prophets of the Bible, but none recognized his preaching as such. We pray that the Creator does.

Great, well written book that represented/reflected feelings of many people who lived during that era but were--perhaps--unable to voice their thoughts, given the climate. Many poignant points relating to life conditions of African Americans of the era, with an urgency for the reader to understand the underpinnings of the "psychology" that underpinned the physical, economic, and political burdens of the time. This information--I believe--was intended to empower the reader. Very good material. History suggests that this author may have paid a huge price for his bravery. This inspirational book has likely inspired many over the years, and has in this way allowed the author to leave a major legacy. A must read.

I think this book should be a required reading for anyone doing or seeking a degree for African American studies. Its more literature than a story as I first thought it to be. It seems to be kept a secret.

Did he write this in 1829?
Every time I read this, which is frequently because I use it in one of my classes, I am amazed it was written nearly 200 years ago. It is prophetic and if one opens their mind, there is a message for the 21st century,
