You have to read this...
From the first page you are in these poor people’s world. It shows the true strength of people when even at there lowest point they still put others first. A love story and a horror all in one book. The saddest part is it’s all true. Written with compassion this is a must read. And for every last person who entered through those gates who’s stories have to be heard....thank you we will never forget

Incredible
A well written, historically accurate novel that evokes a wide range of emotions from despair to hope. I was put through the emotional wringer at the end and was amazed to find it was based on a true story with things mentioned in the book on view at the Museum in Auschwitz. Above all, the message was love - and true love conquers all. Highly recommended but not for the faint hearted.

What a story!!
This is a remarkable story of courage and love in the face of unbelievable cruelty and wickedness. The fact that it is based on a true account of real people in real time makes it all the more chilling. The depths that humans can sink to is hard to comprehend and the events in Auschwitz during WW 2 will have a profound effect on any readers and hopefully enable us to ensure it is never repeated.

Wonderful
I couldn't put this book down and really enjoyed every page. I have read lots of holocaust books so already knew a bit about the two people this book is about. I also learnt a new fact, that in the concentration camp there was place called Mexico.' Kanada 'is commonly mentioned in holocaust books but this was a first for me reading of Mexico. The strength of love and passion for kindness and equality in this book is just see inspiring .

Fantastic
It is 12.30 in the afternoon and I am still in bed having just finished this hauntingly beautifully book.I have a huge fascination for history and especially with the unbelievable horror of the holocaustIt's frightening to think that human beings can be so cruel and evil.We should never be allowed to forget what our fellow man is capable of and of course how brave those people were. They will always be in my thoughts and love in my heart for them. Thank you Ellie for your wonderful book regards Diane Tayler

Based on a true story
This is apparently based on a true story, the first female escapee from Auschwitz and an unlikely place for two people who fall in love. The book is set in Auschwitz and we follow Edek and Mala's story, each having their own chapters and it flipping between the two.Through Edek we see the horrors in the camp, the utter disregard for human life and some of the worst atrocities. It is very hard hitting, hard to read and very emotional. Mala has things better than most prisoners there, she works in an office for the Nazi's, has clothes, food, warm, decent sleeping quarters and yet she risks everything to try and do what she can to save those she is able to and ease suffering to the others.Edek and Mala work together to do what they can to help the resistance, their people and of course the more they see of each other a friendship begins. These kinds of books always knock you in the feels, fiction or non fiction, as they are often well researched so have an authentic voice. I went to Ann Franks house/museum in Amsterdam and reading this brought back that experience too. Your heart hurts and you are horrified to contemplate how people could do these murderous/vile/inhuman acts. Despite this being a relatively short book (under 300 pages) it manages to cover a lot of what happened there and the book has plenty for the reader to follow up reading once you finish the book. 4/5 for me this time, prepare yourself for anger, tears, horror and an emotive rollercoaster.

A very inspiring and true to life book
Was very good read, the author obviously did a lot of research which brought the book to life and as history has catalogued. Sorry that the hero/heroine didn't survive but as it was a true life documentary it was more believable.

Mala & Edek
I loved every minute of this book and found it hard to put down, the characters came to life on every page. The cruelty and brutality against such innocent people is so hard to imagine but Ellie Midwood is a genius at bringing the past back to life. I definitely recommend The Girl Wh Escaped from Auschwitz, and a box of tissues to go with it
