Improves Skin & Detoxes The Body
I've been dry body brushing for a few years & have experienced some amazing benefits. It's a dry body brush & is meant to be used on dry skin so if you exercise in the morning, like me, then brush before you exercise & get all sweaty. I brush for 5-10 minutes, exercise, then shower practically every morning. PROS: Dry body brushing stimulates the lymphatic system which helps detox the body; enhances blood flow/circulation; increases skin tone; & opens up pores by removing dead skin cells & other waste. Ever since I started dry body brushing I've gotten compliments on how supple/soft my skin looks & feels, my cellulite has been reduced, & I feel cleaner. I even sometimes skip using soap on my body, opting to instead just rinse off after body brushing. This is the only brush I've ever used & I think the price is fair (I've always bought it for 8-9 bucks either online or at my local health food store). The bristles are all-natural & stiff enough to be effective but not too harsh. CONS: If you want to detach the handle from the head it's sometimes difficult to remove. When brushing I never remove the handle but I do remove it when cleaning the brush. Some of the bristles are also bent & a few have fallen out. Special care needs to be taken to clean the brush. TIPS: Dry brush in your bathtub so you can simply wash the dead skin cells down the drain when you shower. Always brush towards your heart. I sometimes alternate between small, circular motions & long sweeping motions. Do not brush over your nipples or on your face. I lightly brush my neck down towards my heart & I vigorously brush my armpits. Your skin may feel a bit raw after the first few times but this shouldn't hurt once you get used to it. I clean my brush once a week, taking special care not to get the wood wet. TO CLEAN THE BRUSH: Detach the handle. Fill a small basin with about an inch of water & add 3 drops Tea Tree Oil or 3 drops Dr. Bronner's soap. Dip brush bristles & scrub back & forth to remove all waste & evenly distribute oil/soap. Pour out basin & add fresh water then repeat scrubbing back & forth. Set brush, bristles down, on a towel to dry. Dry in sunlight or outside if it's warm. TO STORE THE BRUSH: I keep the plastic tag ring on the brush (but tear off the paper tag) & hang it on a hook in my linen closet. I do not store this in my bathroom because I want to avoid getting the brush/wood wet.

Perfect for dry brushing!
I purchased this skin brush after learning about a technique called "dry brushing" (google it). It is supposed to increase blood flow, lymph drainage and help remove dead skin cells. If nothing else, it sure feels great! After reading the reviews, I chose to purchase this brush. It was just supposed to be my brush, but after seeing how good it felt, my whole family wants to use it (including my 2 year old). The bristles are coarse, but you are no supposed to use a lot of pressure. I was always told to only use the amount of pressure it would take to move a coin across the table. You just brush 2 minutes per day before showering and brush toward the heart (don't brush the face) using long gentle strokes. It feels great. I did see some reviews about the handle not staying on. The wood handle needs to be turned over and inserted that way, which is opposite from the way that you would expect the wood to slide in to the back of the brush. I made that same mistake when I got the brush, but turned the handle over and slid it on that way and it has never fallen off the brush since. The company should really put that on the instructions because I had initially thought that mine was useless as well. I would definately recommend this brush if you are looking for a skin brush. The price is reasonable. The handle is long enough to reach the back. The bristles are made from tampico fiber, which is the unbleached stem of the agave plant. The instructions say to clean the brush periodically with soap and water. Happy brushing!

Read about it, thought it was worth a try, liked it.
I don't even remember how I stubbled upon the Yerba Skin Brush on Amazon. I think I was looking for some mild soap and this came up as a recommended item. Recently, I had been trying to cut back substantially on the amount of soap I use to try and cure some chronic dry/itchy skin. After reading some other reviews, I was intrigued by the Yerba's exfoliating ability (a necessary thing if you're cutting back on soap, in my opinion) as well as its ability to promote healthy soft skin. The price was right so I decided why not. First off, using it for the first time was, as others have said, slightly painful. Nothing you can't just suck up but might be too much for some people. However, after a few days, either your skin gets used to it or the brush bristles soften a bit because the discomfort goes away. I use it quickly before every time I shower and it's great. I've been using it now for about two months on a consistent basis and this is what I have noticed. As far as exfoliations goes, it does a pretty decent job, especially if you use it frequently. If you were looking for something to get rid of built up dry skin (elbows, feet, etc.) this is not the brush for you and you may want to find something more gnarly. But as far as daily, light dry/dead skin removeal - it's great. Since using the Yerba, I have noticed that complexion of my skin has gotten much better. I've never had body acne or anything close to it, but I seem to occasionally get red pores, small pimples on my upper arms and back. Right now I have none, and I believe the Yerba is to thank. Also, my skin does seem to be softer and less itchy and I have rarely, if ever, had to use lotion in past two months. Possibly a coincidence, but once again I contribute it to the Yerba. If you're interested, skeptical, whatever, just give it a try. The price is right and the quality seems to be good enough that, if you like it, you could use it for a long time.

I like it
Excellent brush, the handle isn't so great. If you're new to dry brushing, as I am, just remember that it takes a bit for the body to get used to something new. As some have complained, the bristles did feel hard to me at first, but only about the first 2-3 times. I kept at it and now sometimes wish they were a little courser now if anything. This brush feels great on the skin and I think the periodic washing softens the bristles a little, too. The brush handle is uncomfortable and is still an awkward reach for the back. I still prefer it over having no handle at all, but it would be nice if it was a little more ergonomic. I cannot speak to durability yet, am still on my first month's use.

Bogus health claims
There is not a shred of scientific evidence offered to support the health claims made for skin brushing, the primary use of this brush. Here's what Andrew Weil, MD, had to say about skin brushing: "Dry brushing involves rubbing the skin with a dry natural bristle brush. I understand that this is all the rage at spas and that commercial products are available so that aficionados can do it themselves at home. The process, which can be gentle or rough, may help slough off some dead skin cells, but some of the other claims for it are pretty farfetched. The notion that dry brushing can reduce or eliminate cellulite make no sense. Fat is arranged in large chambers separated from each other by columns of connective tissue. If fat overflows these chambers as a result of being overweight, or if the connective tissue slackens with age (as it invariably does), the result is the classic pitting and bulging we have come to know as cellulite. I have never seen any treatment that can effectively eliminate it. An improvement in the "appearance" of cellulite may be in the eye of the beholder, but I doubt that any objective change takes place with dry brushing. The idea that the method can eliminate "up to a pound of toxins a day," as some proponents claim, is ridiculous. First of all, the body does a pretty good job of cleansing and purifying itself. If you feel the need, you can help speed the removal of unwanted materials by drinking more water to increase urinary output, taking steam baths or saunas to promote sweating, adjusting diet and fiber intake to ensure regular eliminations, and getting enough aerobic activity to stimulate breathing. In addition, taking the herbal remedy milk thistle supports normal, healthy liver metabolism, aiding its important role in detoxification. I would take the health claims for dry brushing with a big grain of salt. If you enjoy it and believe it benefits you, there's no reason not to do it. But if you find that it irritates or inflames your skin, you might want to opt for a less abrasive spa treatment."

Not for thin skin.
I have never tried dry brushing before, but I was reading something online and it was doing a review of how great the dry brushing is and linked to this brush. I love it when they specifically tell you which one otherwise I see all the different ones and I just cannot make the decision. So this one was not too pricey, so I went for it. I will start with letting you know that this brush has some stiff bristles, these are not those soft bristle brushes that you scrub your face or back with. This brush possibly could scratch if used roughly or on someone with older or thinning skin. Maybe even some skin conditions would not like this kind of use. Be careful! Before my morning shower, I started with my feet and in circular motion went evenly up each leg and then i started with the hands and up the arms, then I hit the back and the belly. You are apparently supposed to work towards you heart. So I tried this. Well, let me tell you... my back and thighs were more sensitive than the lower legs and arms. They needed tenderness there. But the skin was nice and pink after, so I assume this helped the circulation. It feels kinda nice if you don't do it too forcefully. Note: The first time I was standing on a clean dark floor and a bit of dry skin did appear on the floor.... but luckily not so much the next time. Its a good brush. Very sturdy. Maybe a little awkward to hit some spots with the handle on. I think it is perfect for what it is intended.

User friendly, natural, good value
I ordered this brush several months ago and have really noticed a difference in the texture and tone of my skin. I have started practicing a lot of natural processes that I've read help the body deal with all the toxins we are constantly exposing it too and one of those practices is brushing the skin daily in circular motion away from the heart. I don't know the scientific truth to all of this, but I definitely noticed some improvements in my overall disposition and energy level (not just this brush, but other factors, but the brushing played a big role) as well as in, as I mentioned, the appearance of my skin. I would recommend it to anyone, especially for the price, its a little "pampering" that you can do on a budget. One thing to mention is that the brush isn't soft, per se, but I don't feel that it should be, and is one of the things I like about it. You can remove the handle and use it as a hand brush but if you need to reach your back, the handle is very sturdy and holds on well when placed correctly. Overall a great brush and with Amazon prime, the price ends up being very reasonable. Worth the money.

Anyone else have a smelly brush?
I got this brush several months ago & love the stiffness of the bristles. It appears well made. Yesterday, however, I had my nose close to the bristles (putting brush away) and noticed a strong odor that I hadn't noticed before. I only use this brush sporadically (mainly for an itchy back & NOT for whole body dry brushing) & it has never been wet. But it smells like really bad B.O. I tried spraying some Febreze - made it smell like perfumey B.O. Then I tried washing it with some tea tree oil shampoo - now it smells like a wet dog with bad B.O. Has anyone else had this issue? When it was wet, it made my whole bathroom stink. I'm not sure if it's what the bristles are made of, or something they were treated with, or what?

Effective & Invigorating
I am very happy with this skin brush. I use this as part of my morning ritual and find it to be very invigorating; the bristle stimulation really wakes you up, leaving you fresh and alert, I'd say it's about equal to two cups of coffee. The bristles are from an Agave plant and are the right balance of coarseness, not too much, not too little. It's effective, yet you can't harm your skin (at least not without trying). A couple light brushes is all you need, your skin feels awake, smooth and clean. The handle is long enough that you can easily do your back. I particularly find this product useful for controlling my psoriasis (not cure, control). 8-10 light brushstrokes, which literally brush off little "clouds" of skin, allows my moisturizer creams to be more effective on the base layer. As this gently removes the top dry layer, I find the itchy sensation from psoriasis to be minimized; my skin is simply in much better condition after using this product and I highly recommend those with such skin issues give this a try. Only con (and not enough to remove a star) is that a few bristles fell out during the first couple uses, at first this concerned me thinking this would be every day, but no, only at first, they no longer fall out and now I'd never know any were even missing; so if this happens with yours, don't be alarmed. It's very effective and I believe mine will last years to come. Recommended.

Dry brushing
Fantastica! Sperimentata oggi per la prima volta, la durezza delle setole è perfetta. Diventerà abitudine quotidiana. Tra l'altro la spazzola si può separate dal manico (è ad incastro) quindi è perfetta x massaggiare ogni parte del corpo
