Where are the beets from ?

The USDA Certified Organic Beets used in this product are grown in China.  In case China sounds scary to you, what really ensures pure and uncontaminated beet root powder is that it is grown according to the strict organic standards of the USDA, and then carefully tested. The Beet Root Powder used in our USDA Certified Organic Beet Root Capsules is tested both overseas and again upon arrival in the US, where it is packaged, to make sure that it is free from known contaminants, and thus qualifies for USDA Organic Certification.

We manufacture our Organic Beet Root Capsules in the USA in an FDA-registered, NSF-certified, and cGMP-compliant facility to ensure quality and purity. Additionally, the USDA has granted Organic Certification on the entire product (not just the beet root powder, as with many other “organic” products that are not actually certified organic) after inspecting this product from source to finish.

I am confused. 1 serving is equivalent to 8 grams of fresh beets. Shouldn't one get about 250 grams of fresh beets/day to feel the benefit of nitrate?

Accepted Answer

The Organic Beet Root contains 400 mg of a potent, 20:1 extract. Thus, the equivalency (strength) of the product is 8000 mg (400 x 20). 
 
With a regular powder, the raw material is not concentrated, and thus does not contain higher potency of the desirable compounds. However, with an extract, the less desirable compounds (color, taste, fibrous material, sugars, etc.) are removed, and a higher percentage of the desirable compounds (nutrients, antioxidants, flavonoids, etc.) remain. The result is that you get the amount of beneficial compounds that would be found in 8000 mg of non-extracted powder, but still have a low dosage and less of the undesirable compounds.

With a highly concentrated Beet Root like this, you get the best of both worlds because the actual amount of Beet Root is not very high, but the benefit (e.g. equivalency or strength) is much, much higher.
