Finally, a brace that actually helps
I have suffered with an arthritic ankle for three years. I understand from my orthodontist that bone damage is measured in stages from one (mild) to four (surgery time). I am at a three, I am also in my mid-70s, live alone, and am fiercely independent, but this ankle is threatening my independence.I have lived with rheumatoid arthritis since I was young and have managed to accommodate all the changes, but I seriously doubt I could live alone any longer if I lose this ankle joint. So, after trying several medical braces that were useless, a few OTC braces, and even casting my foot for 6 weeks, the doctor said give this one a try.First, I put on a thin slipper sock and then started lacing the brace. I admit, putting it on with arthritic hands was very difficult. It took me about 30 minutes, but I was determined. I was never able to lace it up all the way. However, the relief was instantaneous! My ankle is completely supposed by this brace. No more pain!! I can walk on both feet!I have worn this brace for two weeks and the results have been amazing. Before the brace, I was icing every couple of hours to keep the swelling down. I have not experienced swelling since I first put on the brace.I do have a couple of suggestions: the toes are not supported and the bottom of the brace is some type of heavy cloth. I cannot wear my regular sized slippers or shoes over the brace, so either I walked with toes without support and no sole support, or I figured out something else.I tried big socks— didn’t really help. I finally tried buying a cast supporter for that foot. It isn’t ideal, but it allows me to protect my toes and the bottom of the brace. My other suggestion is to have a buddy with you the first time you try on the brace. It is difficult to accomplish alone, although I did.I have not used the side supports yet. I am going to wait until my doctor re-evaluates my ankle before I do. However, I am thrilled with the results even without the side supports.I highly recommend this brace!!

Missing plastic side stabilizer inserts
Product was fine but came without plastic side stabilizers even thought the product description clearly states "Removable side stabilizer inserts are included to provide additional ankle support." There is no way to contact the seller directly; questions are routed to an Amazon feedback bot that only allows for returns.

Excellent for recovery from sprain
After a bad sprain, I tried two braces, the Shock Doctor and Swede-O boot, to lock my heel in place for a couple of weeks, as recommended by my physical therapist. The Swede-O boot is really superior. With the plastic inserts around the ankle, it is very secure and feels like excellent support. There is more movement of the foot with the Shock Doctor, even with the adjustments all tightened. Also, the Shock Doctor takes longer to get on and off, having both laces and three velcro straps. The Swede-O boot lacing system is easier to use. I'm really impressed with the Swede-O boot.
