Does this connect together well with the take n play loose track set?

Yes, it has the same connectors and is a take n play set. We've created a whole island with all our tracks.

Is this small enough to bring on a plane?

I have worked on trying to fold it and the sides fold back and under the Yellow green section with the red part as the handle and the train or trains can be carried inside the yellow green section...however maybe I am not doing something correctly because some parts of the track do not want to click down and therefore are floppy as it is carried. I am sure there is something I am not doing correctly and I no longer have the directions. You may be able to check out a YouTube video for this toy that demonstrates folding it. Sorry I can't be more help. In any case ... even if you can get it folded to carry on the plane ... it would be kind of big to play with on the plane. I have bought several of these take and play train sets for my grandson and there are others that fold smaller and don't take much room unfolded.

Is the Thomas train that's included with this set smaller than the standard take n play trains that come in the 10 pack for example?

The train is same size as all take and play sets that my Grandson has.
