The Dresden Dolls - Paradise

I'm not creative so... "It is good."
When I got the Dresden Dolls eponymous album I quickly fell in love with it. Easily one of my top ten albums. Then I went to see a solo gig they did during the NIN tour at the 9:30 club in Washington D.C. Imagine my surprise when I left exclaiming, "That was soooo much better than the album."While this DVD can't quite compare to standing 20 feet away from Brain's drum kit, it's pretty close. They are simply a brilliant live band. The whole concert is spectacular. For me the highlights were their cover of War Pigs (seriously, who needs a guitar for that song) and Half-Jack (the 4 minute instrumental intro is simply divine.)There's a ton of extras that are sure to please if you're obsessed with the band. I'd recommend this to anyone with a taste for rock music. The only way it could be improved is if they were able to include some of their newer songs that I guess they didn't want to release on DVD ahead of the CD. ("The Shores of California" and "Me & the Minibar" in particular)

Superb set
I just wanted to second all of the great reviews this DVD has already received. Having just seen the Dolls in Boston (Dec. 29, 2007) in a much larger venue (The Orpheum Theater), and having seen the complete footage of them two years ago in the tent at Roskilde Festival in Denmark, I really enjoyed the more intimate set -- and relatively clean audio mix -- which makes up the majority of this DVD. If you're a Dolls fan, don't even give it a second thought; you'll be watching this over and over. If you're just finding out about them, this might be your best chance to see them for a while. By all reports, they're going to be on hiatus for a while, and with Amanda Palmer's solo album set to be released shortly, it's certainly possible that the Dolls will never look exactly the same again. Anyway, you can't go wrong here.

Amazing set from the Dresden Dolls....
The Dresden Dolls are at their most raw and powerful in this great set from their first DVD. The original tunes are great with Half Jack and Girl Anachronism the stand outs, but it's the cover of Black Sabbath's War Pigs that really sticks with me. To imagine that a duo with piano and drums could equal the raw emotion of the original is almost unbelievable, but the Dolls are up to the task. This concert is what live performance is all about. Excellent and highly recommended!

The best act of the 21st Century!
OK, it's a drum and a piano, but it's pure rock! If there's still any doubt left in your mind, just check their cover for Black Sabbath's "War Pigs". The energy, talent and passion this power duo puts into their songs compensates for any bass or guitar the most conservative rock fan would complain about. And their original work such as "Coin-operated Boy", "Girl Anachronism", "Good Day" and so many others shows exactly how inventive the sound of a band can get without sounding weird or boring, remaining faithful to rock, but with a new voudeville-like concept. It's really worth to check out the work of this two extremely talented musicians.

Awesome show!
This movie is good for nay Dresden Dolls fan. Their performance was just impressive. The thing I liked even more than the performance itself, was the feature "A day in the life of the Dresden Dolls"It follows them through an entire day, and it's definitly really cool to see.

Nothing beats DD live... but this comes close
There's no way to explain a LIVE Dresden Doll show, but watching it could get you half way there. If you don't think you'll be seeing DD live within the next year but must see more of them, THIS DVD is definately your best bet. Amanda and Brian are shown in the buff (stripped down figuratively of course) and it's amazing to see how REAL they both are. Their fans are dedicated and ALWAYS involved and of course the live show, which includes War Pigs (twice since they messed up I suppose the first time).MUST HAVE FOR DRESDEN DOLL FANS!

awesome!
I prefer this Dresden doll DVD over live at the roundhouse. This one not only comes with concert footage but a day long documentary in the life of the band, plus pre concert footage, and performance art footage.
