Hanbali Acts of Worship: From Ibn Balban's The Supreme Synopsis

A spectacular piece of work. TabarakAllah, the words chosen to translate the work are superb, its format, refreshing and neat and the commentaries in brackets are very helpful. Even though i would highly advise that this book be taken under a teacher, this proves to be an amazing resources for ones study in hanbali fiqh May Allah reward all those who made this book possible and I plead that you publish the remaining 2/3rds in the nearest future. And the shipping to Australia was unbelievable ariving only after 7 days

This translation of the first 1/3 of Akhṣar al-Mukhtaṣarāt is currently the most important book detailing Ḥanbalī Fiqh that is available in the English language as of July, 2016. This specific text covers the following topics: Purification, Prayer, Charity, Pilgrimage, and Jihād. One issue arose in reading this text: One of the pages fell out of the book on the first day I received it. Even though I had this issue, I will not rate it lower than five stars due to the benefit.

As salam alaykum everyone, This book is great and I definitely recommend it. It's not too long and not too short. I learned a lot about the basic principles of the Hanbali madhabb and I especially loved the formatting.

I'm in the midst of studying Hanbali fiqh and this is the third major resource I've obtained to that end. Having the parallel Arabic text is extremely valuable. It affords an opportunity to compare points of agreement and disagreement within the madhhab.

Just got this two days ago. Great translation. Much recommended for Ḥanbalis. It's a reliable introductory work to the acts of worship based on the Ḥanbalī school of thought. Akhṣar al-Mukhtaṣarāt is a work authored by Ibn Balbān who is a significant Ḥanbalī author. More than one person had referred to him as Shaykh al-Islām. He used to teach at the famous school of Damascus known as al-ʿUmariyyah where he would come every morning and divide his time between prayer, Quran, writing, and teaching. At some point in its existence, al-ʿUmariyyah used to host over 60 000 students. People in his era were in agreement to his superiority over others in knowledge. May Allah have His mercy on Ibn Balbān. May Allah reward Sh. Musa Furber for his dedication to preserving sacred tradition. See some of his other works on Islamosaic as well.

A good book for those who follow the Hanbali madhab!

There are times when the Arabic does not correlate to the English. At other times, the translation is off, or a better term could have been used -- word choice is critical for primers. Musa Furber, may God preserve him, makes annotations that are more cumbersome than the text they are supposed to explain. When it comes to the material itself, it is important to note that a primer is difficult to understand from the get-go. One of my teachers told me that any Fiqhi text needs to be read four or five times to get an understanding and this one is no exception. Unfortunately, this translation does not make things easier. If I did not have someone to check in on with the ideas, I would certainly walk away with the wrong perception of the religion. Keep in mind that this primer is one of many -- the most notable being Ibn Qudamah's 'Umdat. I have heard from my seniors that some in the school of thought discourage Ibn Balban's (May God have mercy on him) primer. In the end, it is your journey, and you must make sure that you get the correct idea from the book. Therefore, regularly review your thoughts with others to ensure you have understood it correctly.
