Seven Years to Sin (Historical Romance)

Love and Obsession
Jessica has never been able to shake the memory of happening upon Alistair Caulfield and his lover, in the throes of an illicit liaison, in her garden late, one night. If 7 years of happy marriage to the now sadly deceased Lord Tarley has not helped her forget then nothing will. When she takes a long sea voyage to visit the property in jamaica that her husband left her, the last person she expects to find onboard is Alistair.Alistair has had to fight all his life to get what he wanted, and he has wanted Jessica for a very long time. He is prepared to do whatever is necessary to make sure he gets her. This is a story of love and obsession. There is no slow burn, it is, BAM, straight into the sex, and Sylvia Day, fortunately, writes these scenes very well. I found the shipboard plot a little lacking in places: Day 3 of the journey and the repressed widow is already quite comfortable strolling around naked in from of the handsome rogue - there are still 5 and a half weeks at sea left, where can we go from there? The subplot featuring Jessica's sister is much more interesting once it gets going.Despite that, this book is well written and properly steamy right up to the very end but there are no real twists and turns. Just a straightforward romance.

Corny and predictable
I’d read some great reviews about this author, so thought I’d give this book a go. Sadly, just way too easy to guess the outcomes of the story and I became so frustrated with the languishing dialogues. If you love corny bodice-rippers, this is ok, but it bored me, though I did read it until the end to give it a chance.

Struggled to finish this
Sex. Sex, sex, sex, sex, sex. And not very well written sex, at that. For example, "His penis was a brutal instrument of pleasure." Bleurrggh!I didn't engage with the characters and found the story quite boring. Some contrived drama at the end of the story. Just glad it's over.

Loved It!!
This was the first Historical Romance that I had read by Sylvia Day and I have read every single book of hers (in this genre) since!!The book starts with Jess witnessing her 'Fantasy Man' Alistair in sexual congress with another lady, living up to his reputation 'with the ladies'. But something changed with Jess that night, when she and Alistair share a moment, awakening the sexual woman that Jess hides. She leaves and marries her fiance.Seven years later; Jess is a widow, Alistair own plantations and a fleet of ships. Alistair has been harboring desire for Jess since their days as children, and finally has Jess to himself on one of his ships, en-route to Jamaica. He sees this as the perfect chance to finish what he started seven years prior, and bring her passion to the surface once more...I had already been a fan of Sylvia Day having read the Crossfire Series, but seriously, this is worth a read. I was totally obssessed and have since re-read the entire series. I really could not get enough of this book and by the end had falled in love with Alistair myself! I was sad to reach the end. I would recommend this book to fans of Sylvia Day or Fifty Shades.

Georgette Heyer with sex
I loved this story. I found Jess and Alistair very engaging and was rooting for them throughout. The sexual chemistry between them was well written, romantic and erotic but not as graphic as in Day's Crossfire novels. The supporting characters were nicely developed and the sub plot added some extra interest.Sylvia Day captures the atmosphere of aristocratic life in Georgian England well, with good attention to detail. Just one (major) error at the end which might have made the ending even better had it been avoided. I won't list it as it will spoil the plot.None the less a brilliant, if undemanding, read

Very good read
I put off reading this book due to it being a historical romance. However due to not finding anything as good as Sylvia Days Hardwired series of books decided to give it a go. Although no where near as intense as the Hardwired series it was a well written passionate story which I thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend

YOU MUST READ THIS !
Would give this 10 stars if I could It is head and shoulders above all other books that I have read in this genre, and I have read a few ! Better than Ask For It by the same writer, not that Ask For It is bad but this is perfect Imagine the best Beeb costume drama you have ever seen, with some really hot sex thrown into the mix,and you have this book ! Loved the Crossfire series, but this is better Have just ordered another 2 Sylvia Day books, but I don't think anything will top this one Very highly recommended !

Enjoyable but........
I love the Crossfire novels so this was a no brainer for me to buy.I did enjoy it but it didn't live up to my expectations.....however in fairness, they were really high because I loved Crossfire so much.I enjoyed Seven Years... because the main female character isn't some wimpy girl but a strong woman who knows what she wants and isn't shy to ask for it when often in books set in this era, the woman is quite coy sexually whilst the man takes the dominant role. The erotic element of the story is well written and detailed. It just left me feeling a bit deflated when I got to the end but I'm not sure why. I think it's because I felt the book should have been longer with more exploration into how the characters interacted together on land once they reached thier destination away from London. It just felt rushed trowards the end and that's where it fell down for me however I would still recommend reading this book and it isn't stopping me from purchasing some of her other titles.
