As my name is Matt, I figured I'd pick this as a mat for closeup magic. The price was decent enough to try.The surface is too rough and the backing too thin to do what a standard magic mat should, but it's not designed to be a mat for closeup magic. And it works decently as one. If you have a choice between a hardwood table, gravel, and this, choose this. Way better than hardwood. Look at the photo for the card spread. The text makes it worth it to me to put in the extra effort.The surface is too smooth to get mud off shoes, so it's not for places/seasons with heavy rain or other mud-causing conditions. Like dirt and sprinklers, I guess. But it's fine for places with light dust and for flip-flops. So pretty much LA. Which is good news for me. But also I don't use it for shoes, so there's that.But overall, if this is being purchased for someone named Matt, it's a winner. The rest doesn't matter because it's cheap enough even just to be a good gag gift.

Very thin. Does not look or feel like an outside mat. Same quality you would find at a dollar tree not worth the money that it cost.
