This Jackie Wilson set follows on nicely from (JASCD509 - Here Come Jackie Wilson) and features all five of the LPs he released between 1958 and 1960! Features such classic hits as "To Be Loved", "Reet Petite", "Lonely Teardrops", "Doggin' Around" and "Night" plus many more. These albums and subsequent hits had a profound influence over the development of soul music later in the '60s which makes this set yet another must have on the ever growing Jasmine label.

One of the most beautiful voices ever!
A 2 CD set of the years of 1958-1960 I got into Jackie in 1958! I bought every 45 & album I could. The 45's were such a treat. But, I would immediately go to the flip side! I loved his hits, but it was the B side that most always had those beautiful ballads. I got to see him perform and Michael Jackson could have learned some moves from this guy! In fact, he may well have gotten some of his from Jackie. I am still looking for an album, "Jackie Wison sings the Worlds Most Beautiful Songs." I'll take whatever I can get.He grew up singing in Gospel groups. He was just too strong for any of them. However, you feel his sincerity, with spiritual overtones all through his music. There are so many awesome ballads on this CD set, like To Be Loved, I'm Wandering, Danny Boy, (best ever) Someone to Need Me, Only You Only Me still takes my breath, as well as NIGHT! Also, It's All Apart of Love and The Magic of Love, The River. And, A Woman, A Lover A Friend, Jackie style. You feel his soul & love of God,especially on Ask & When You Add Religion to Love!Of course you also get the one & only, Lonely Teardrops, Talk That Talk, Etcetera, Reet Petite, That's Why I Love You So, and others. In the Blues section you have Doggin' Around, (great song) You Cried, & Behind the Smile is A Tear. You get sixty, (60) songs, yet I had to buy the 7 cd set too, in order to get more that I wanted. You cannot have too much Jackie Wison!

One of the Greatest Voices of the Twentieth Century
Jack Leroy "Jackie" Wilson, Jr. (June 9, 1934 - January 21, 1984) was an American singer and performer. Known as "Mr. Excitement", Wilson was important in the transition of rhythm and blues into soul. He was considered a master showman, and one of the most dynamic and influential singers and performers in R&B and rock history.Gaining fame in his early years as a member of the R&B vocal group Billy Ward and His Dominoes, he went solo in 1957 and recorded over 50 hit singles that spanned R&B, pop, soul, doo-wop and easy listening. During a 1975 benefit concert, he collapsed on-stage from a heart attack and subsequently fell into a coma that persisted for nearly nine years until his death in 1984, aged 49. By this time, he had become one of the most influential artists of his generation.Listening to this set of albums, one can fully appreciate why National Public Radio chose Jackie Wilson as one of the best voices of the twentieth century along side such notables as Enrico Caruso. His voice conveyed tremendous emotional content no matter what kind of song he was performing. These tracks show that had he wanted to do so, he could have done as well on the opera stage as he did in R&B or easy listening concerts. I doubt that we'll hear his equal anytime in the near future. These CDs deliver top quality sound and are highly recommended to anyone who appreciates great music performed by a great vocalist.

Great stuff
Jackie Wilson from his stint in Billy Ward and the Dominos had a reputation as a singer's singer, a lady's man, a consummate performer--and when he went solo the world was expected to be his oyster. Despite the admiration of people like Elvis Presley, this did not happen--I'm not sure why--and this set certainly holds no explanation. This is some of the most remarkable and soulful rock and roll I have ever heard. He sings in a large number of styles--slow ballads, fast blues, hopped up swing, and it all rocks and is so soulful--every single number is quite nice. And that's a lot of numbers! 60 songs in all! He is as good as Ray Charles, or Elvis Presley, or Carl Perkins, or whichever seminal 50s singer you wish to mention. This CD comes with my highest recommendation. Just be aware, that though it is soulful, it is not soulful in that 60s way...this means that Jackie Wilson is not really pointing forward, the way, say Smokey Robinson was at the same time...BUT Jackie Wilson has an incredible voice with wonderful control and he is so very tasteful.
