Can I install without knocking pliers?

I would think so, but the knocking pliers make a nice clean smooth finish. If you have facial hair the smoother the better. If you don't mind pliers marks thamen sure why not do it that way.

Does this add noise and vinratiom to the string?

I can't say that it does. If you're a hunter I know you'd be concerned about extra noise. I'm just a target shooter myself. I don't appreciate any additional vibration. Seems pretty smooth. It snaps on very easily. Just watch the Youtube video, the guy uses a Bic pen cap. It secures with 2 small brass clips with a pair of nocking pliers. It's not tacky to pull any facial hair. Was shooting today out in the back yard. I really like it. Seems to work well and easy to install.
