nice product!3.5 year update: after countless rental cars, it's finally time to order a replacement. The sticky pad finally reached the end of its life and had developed a texture from so many moved from car to car. I will be order the same unit again!18 month update: after moving this mount between countless rental cars, the sticky suction cup is starting to have some problems, but I'll keep using it until it fails completely.1 year update: after having used and abused the product for a year, I can say it works great! It is a huge improvement over the factory Garmin version. And no, it is not the same as the factory unit Garmin ships. This mount has a washable suction/adhesive surface that creates a strong seal to any clean surface, including dashboards.I travel constantly and move the mount between rental cars regularly. The mount is very stable and has never fallen off the glass, IF YOU KEEP THE SUCTION CUP SURFACE CLEAN (run it under water for a few seconds, then wipe off any debris). When used in hot weather, it can sometimes be more difficult to remove since the adhesion seems to increase with temperature. The key to removal in hot weather is to carefully peel away from the glass by pulling on the tab on the side of the adhesion/suction disk.I have also found it to be helpful to stick the paper disk packaged with the mount on the suction surface when not installed; it helps keep the disk clean.

Sadly, while this adhered easily to my windshield and my Garmin GPS mounted without issue, while driving in the first hour my car hit a pothole and during the shake the device literally fell apart, the suction part seperated from the hard plastic holder and I am completely unable to re-attach it. My Garmin version of this device had been through far worse treatment without this kind of failure, so I must conclude that parts or manufacturing are simply poor in this case.

When I bought the Garmin for which this item is needed to secure in my car windshield or dash, I had no problem using it. But part of that mounting got lost in a recent move so I ordered this replacement. First, the two pieces do not connect or disconnect easily and it also affects smooth adjusting of the Garmin when in use. Next, the adhesive they have put on the suction piece is not anything I am going to risk on the dash of my car and it's need purpose was not mentioned in the product information. It is not worth the trouble it takes to return it so I will just take the loss and go back to the store where I bought the Garmin hoping they still carry what I originally was able to buy and use. On balance, seems like just another cheap knockoff. I don't recommend it at all.

The new Garman window holders do not stay on after you take them off. They are not made the same way as the originals. The originals had Suction cups. The new ones had a soft type of material with the glue like sticky substance. After using Garmin for over 20 years, I would not buy this product again and suggest that before you try to replace the window lock, get the ones with the original suction cups.

it works great most of the time but i have found that the area it is going to be locked upon must be completely clean. i also found that the rubber stickum on the bottom side of this griplock should be cleaned with alcohol or window cleaner prior to using. if not done, it will stay for awhile...maybe 30 minutes or an hour but then your car hits a bump in the road or you take a corner too fast and it will come off. the inside of the windshield works best but it too much be clean. no smoke...no residue of any kind. and the area cleaned with window cleaner then alcohol. now it will stay indefinitely but removing it can be a problem too. it is great if it works...
