Review: Love it so far - Bought the Kindle edition, and made my first recipe tonight. I made the carrot soup with tahini and rosemary. I have many carrot ginger soup recipes, so I wanted something different and relatively easy. This was perfect. It was delicious and not at all boring. I’m looking forward to making more recipes from this book. Review: Awesome cookbook. Easy - I love to cook

Love it so far
Bought the Kindle edition, and made my first recipe tonight. I made the carrot soup with tahini and rosemary. Wonderful read with lots of amazing recipes, many of which are accessible for cooks of a wide degree of experience. Also, her essays on sustainability and other topics, interspersed throughout, are thoughtful.

Is this the version you want?
Bought a copy in New Zealand for the family Secret Santa gift exchange there. My son was the lucky recipient. We made many delicious memories on the trip. (The Brown Butter Double Chip Cookies were a hit with everyone - including the littles that helped bake them.) So good I ordered this copy for when I returned home to the states. Didn’t think about it being a different version - but it is. Unclear what all changed, but I first noticed no page minder ribbon. I can see wording differences as well from some snaps I took for recipes names. Sure the recipes will work but just kind of sad they aren’t the same…

Give it time, keep paging through, it'll hit you
When I first got this book, I thought, oh how lame and almost returned it. I found the photos to be boring and the recipes a bit blah (probably because of the dumb photos), and the fact that the one pot meals are anything but! But there were some parts that I really liked: the use of regular, easy to find ingredients, the templates in the back for multiple variations of dressings, frittatas, soups, and sauces, and it's a nice quality book. I just wanted to like it so much, I kept bringing it in to the tv room to plan for next week's meals. Finally, I started to notice some things. The recipes are actually FAR more interesting than I initially thought they were and then the "Ten Simple (insert vege here) Ideas"! That is the coolest. It has 10 ideas for each of the most common vegetables and just lists those ideas with super easy instructions on 2 pages. No pictures for those, but it's just so nice to be able to say, Hey, I have a bunch of broccoli that needs to be used up, what to do?? and there it is, Ten Simple Broccoli Ideas! And she's not kidding. She gives the instructions for each idea in one paragraph using ingredients most of us who cook from scratch have on hand. I love this book now. It's my favorite real go-to cookbook, because I just don't have the energy and time every week for Ottolenghi!

So far, every recipe has been amazing.
I check out cookbooks from the library first, and cook from them for a week. If the recipes are winners, I buy the book. I just purchased this book after only cooking from the loaned copy for three days...the three recipes have been PHENOMENAL. So far I've made the Eggplant & Peanut Stew, the Crispy Potato, Cornmeal & Cheese Pancake (boy was this one amazing), and the Crispy White Beans with Kale, Lemon & Parmesan. The recipes are easy and use ingredients we already enjoy, she just seems to put a different spin on the flavors a bit. Even my pretty picky teenager has cleaned his bowl every night. This book has gotten me excited about cooking dinner again, honestly, after quite a spell of just going through the motions.

Genius -- original, delicious
We have cooked about a third of the recipes in this book -- and so far there is not a single fail. Not only that, the recipes are clever and original, with unexpectedly brilliant flavour combinations. Tonight we had the aubergines with peanuts -- and it was astonishingly complex and delicious. She also employs novel techniques. It's given the cooks in this household tremendous inspiration and joy.

One: Star
I was really excited about this cookbook—had read great reviews—but after being a bit disillusioned by the claims in the early chapters to being green, yet the inclusion of products that must be shipped internationally, I made one of the recipes (Celeriac and Red Wine Stew with Cheddar Dumplings). It certainly didn’t take just one pot! I had a lot of prep dishes to wash (by the way, if you can prep all the “veg” (an entire celeriac plus carrots) in the 5 minutes it takes to cook the onion and garlic, my hat is off to you!). I also had to throw away the “stew”! There was not enough liquid and once I added the dumplings, it just became a mush. I was able to remove and salvage by baking the dumplings (en entire stick of butter was in those!), but I’m definitely not feeling like I did anything but waste food on this recipe and waste money and fossil fuels on having this book shipped! Beware that there are few if any chef reviews of this book—the recipes are not well-tested, and NOT well-written (e.g., what SIZE crockpot should I use?, etc.).

Such a pleasure to read
I really love this cookbook. It's beautiful and practical. The sections where she lists simple ways to prepare and spice up the most commonly used (and wasted) veg was really helpful.

So many flavourful recipes!
I’ve had the book for about a week and tried at least 5 recipes. All were TOP! I’m loving them. There are a few that are non-vegan but you can easily replace the ingredients for vegan ones.

Yummi
