Excellent way to learn Kotlin
After 10 years a professional C and C++ programmer, I switched to a new role writing in Kotlin. This Big Nerd Ranch book is a really efficient overview of the language, and it's actually fun to work through, writing the game and then cleaning it up. I feel like a college student again. :-) No, you won't be an expert in Kotlin from this book - that takes years of experience - but you'll have seen all the important pieces of the language.

More reading and note taking than coding.
You'll learn kotlin for sure, just in an unorthodox way. You do more reading than coding. Book could of been 400 pages or less. There's a lot of whitespace. & on page 147 the seem to have saw it fit to comment out and move code around. In the time that it took to do that, they could of have shown you the concept without having to do so much moving around of the code. My recommendation. Stick to mini projects instead of 2 major projects. Personally, I'd rather have 10 projects that explain in detail how something works, than 2 projects where understanding a coding concept is dependent on grasping all concepts of every prior code statement. At least with smaller projects I can go back to that project, instead of 2 projects where I got to switch through 3 files to understand what they decided to write the code in the way that they did.

Engaging well written book
I’ve tried several online kotlin aids and found the content in this book to be far superior to them all. Don’t waste your time on others not so well written.

Best way to learn Kotlin fast
Big Nerd Ranch books have always been the best way to learn the latest mobile tech fast. This book is clear, concise, up-to-date and well-organized. Congrats to Andrew and his colleagues for writing a great resource for people working in mobile.

Efficient and fun way to to learn Kotlin
Just completed third chapter. Unlike Intellij IDEA Academy, where if you get stuck at one exercise, you must find a way to complete it, and unlike other approaches which are thorough but boringly repetitive, this one is short, to the point, and moves on.You could learn Kotlin as a complete newbie to computer languages, but then this probably is not the right book for you. If you know any other Object Oriented computer language through the basics, then you will be able to learn Kotlin quick, fast and in a hurry.I want to first learn Kotlin bumper to bumper before taking on the challenge of Android Programming. This is the right book to learn Kotlin quickly and enjoying it.Can't ask for much more than that. And when they come out with next edition, I will lay out the money for that automatically.

very shallow
If you are already a programmer and only want to learn Kotlin, you may want to skip this book. The examples are very shallow and boring.I'm 100 pages through this book and the only thing they do is to print the exact same text over and over again.I'm very disappointed with the "Big Nerd Ranch".The android programming book was very amazing with lots of practical examples, but this one did not meet my expectations at all.I do not recommend this book.

Great way to learn Kotlin
...Although it might not suit a novice programmer. I am an experienced programmer with professional experience in C, C# and java, so many aspects of kotlin are comparable to those languages, even if the syntax is somewhat different. This book gave me a good workout in kotlin, going deep into the language in places. I loved the idea of learning a language by writing a text adventure game, so much so that I keep going back to NyetHack and adding more features! The book is well written and well-ordered as regards the progression of topics is concerned. I was occasionally bemused by the way a recently-established technique was soon discarded, sort of 'Well that way works, of course, but for more flexibility or brevity, use this instead'... yeah, OK, I realised after a while that this is part of the author's teaching approach, and it works in the end.Kotlin is an evolving language, and some the code in the book doesn't work with the latest kotlin libraries, but that is inevitable, I suppose, and I was able to change the code to reflect the new syntax without any problem. All in all, a thoroughly good tutorial.

No es muy didactico
Para los que tienen poca experiencia en programación, este libro puede resultar complejo. Describe bien las características de Kotlin, pero no da suficientes ejemplos; y los pocos ejemplos no son muy buenos.En pocas palabras no es muy didáctico.
