Winsor & Newton Cotman Watercolor Paint Set, 20 Colors, 5ml (0.17-oz) Tubes

This is my review of Winsor & Newton Cotman’s Watercolor Paint Set Winsor & Newton are a standard in the industry for quality and consistency in their products, and I have been using them for many years. Their paints go from inexpensive to pricey. If I were to rate this set from 1 – 10, with 1 being their cheapest (and least quality) paint to 10, being their absolute best, I would place this set around a 4 or 5. That means these paints are great for the beginner, who desire a low-cost alternative, yet will still demand excellent results on the paper. Then, as you hone your craft, you can move up to more expensive paints. These paints have a smooth quality, and are well mixed when coming out of the tube. Three of the twenty had a bit of air in them, and when opened pushed out some paint, but not much. The colors are vibrant, and the mix of colors give you a nice variety that are suitable for any watercolor you choose to create. I use them by putting them into half pans and allowing them to dry. I can then take the with me on an outdoor painting excursion, and reactivating them with a bit of water. But whether you use them straight from the tube, or dry them like I do, I am confident that you will like the results you get.

This is a good product, especially for the price. My kids had so much fun mixing new colors and creating their own piece of art! This is the first one using this type of watercolor. It seemed thick and easy to use. We like all of the color options and the ability to mix them.

I bought the set of 20 .17oz tubes and am really very happy with these paints. The paint is rich with a very good consistency, the colors are vibrant with great coverage, and there's such a good selection of colors you hardly have to do any mixing. I'm a beginner and didn't understand or appreciate the difference a really good set of paints could make. These paints just may result in me stepping up my watercolor game.

Not as good as the Winsor pro line but 10 times better then other brands. If your still building your skills or just need a well made affordable option this is definitely the way to go.

The pigments are very strong and paints work very well. Just wish they had area for mixing colors, if wanted. I do use the folding covers to mix them, but that doesn’t work too well. I use them actually to paint on tumblers, so it’s nice they are very versatile for different purposes. Also have been using them in my mixed media book. So I know they work on different surfaces. They are very smooth and the colors are vibrant. You can make them range from deep to transparent, with options on what surface you’re painting the dry time varies. Let them dry enough and you can go in and do any details without disrupting the initial color. It only took overnight to put them in and let them harden for use. Overall I really like them and I’m looking forward to purchasing a bigger set!

I have been learning the art of watercolor and wanted to try out tube paint. This set is amazing. Vivid colors, mixes well and is fun to use. Winsor & Newton has quickly become my favorite. I have purchased pan sets from this brand as well and feel the quality of their products is fantastic.

Beautiful colors. I know they're student grade and I bought them for a class I was taking, even though the teacher suggested Winson & Newton professional watercolors. Unfortunately the professional were out of my price range. I was very happy with the results (and my teacher didn't complain).
