Excellent Upgrade.
The original safety knob on the Mossberg M590A1 seems designed to separate your thumbnail, from the nail bed every. single. time. you engage it - even wearing gloves! My only regret about this upgrade is that I waited so long to do it. WATCH A HOW-TO VIDEO FIRST! After watching a video that let me see how to install the new knob without losing the tiny ball-bearing in the works, I was able to easily swap this part out in just a few minutes. I would never go back to the OEM safety knob after using this one - and I really like the red color. The parts are well made, the anodizing seems high quality, and I don't doubt that it will last a lifetime, just like the rest of a Mossberg shotgun.

Mossberg safety replacement
This fit my western field and my new haven shotguns well had to replace broken originals that were plastic

"Simple" bolt in
Nice finish, however, the detents are just deep dimples, to get the safety to slide smoothly, it is necessary to make a short shallow groove leading into the detent. If you don't make the grooves, it will be difficult to move the slide between SAFE and FIRE. Before installing, be sure the shotgun slide is cocked, open, and the safety is ON or you will spend a bit of time recovering the internal safety latch when you remove the screw from the safety slide.

Easy to use, read below....
Buy it now! The stock safety is a bitch to use, that's why you are here. I should of done this years ago!!!!!! Installation on the 500- read it all first.Remember, unloaded check, check again, safety on, open action all the way, safety is on, use a wire tie or a few bread twist ties and hold tension back on the trigger, this will keep the inner mechanism from falling in side when you take screw off( if it does fall in- no big deal just more time - a breakdown and cleaning now that your going in-) keep gun up right, a vise or a few gallon water jugs sandwich it.When you take screw off keep down pressure because tiny spring and ball bearing wants to fly off. Set up something under to catch all if you are clumsy. You will use the backing plate under the switch again for the new switch.Dab a little gun greese under and side of all. Some loctite or similar recommend put on screw.Easy as you apply a little pressure to all and thread screw in.Done? Yup fantastic told ya!

Not Easy to Install-had to take to gunsmith
Mossberg 590. I had read the instructions and watched a couple video's. Followed all instructions about slide back and trigger cable tied. I laid the gun on its side to avoid having the safety catch piece with the threads fall into the receiver, but it did. removed the trigger group and held pressure against the threaded safety piece and tried to screw the safety catch into it. Tried for about 3 hours but could not get the ball bearing situated correctly. Gave up and took to my gunsmith. He said he had a heck of a time getting it but did eventually get it installed. Even done professionally its not as smooth as I had hoped. Wish I never bought it and left the original safety switch alone.
