NBA Coaches Playbook: Techniques, Tactics, and Teaching Points

Actually more video-related illustrations are easier to read / understand.It is more like a history book, to find what it can last and built on, what needs to evolve.

Great book. I have a young nerdy son who wants to be a point guard. As I am also a nerd who played basketball for a while, and formally studies strategy and tactics, (from chess to economics), I bought a BUNCH of books. This one really stood out in terms of the amount of quality information it offers!Some stuff like the execution of a crossover-dribble, would clearly be easier to learn from a video, but if you puzzle over the descriptions a bit and slo-mo a few plays for them the explanations are adequate to get the idea across to a 10 year old. Also the book could probably use an expanded section on interpreting play diagrams (or a bit more discipline diagramming writing them) because while many where quite clear, there were definitely a few where I found myself scratching my head trying to guess the coaches intentions.But if you work at it a bit, the info is there and I mean *LOTS* of info. From basics of shooting, dribbling and passing, to complex stuff like how to customize defensive switching strategies based on your opponents strengths. I have had coaches that talk about having a high IQ for your sport, and this book is all about that.I am still supplementing this book with some SIMPLER books like "Bird on Basketball" (which is also great), and am also researching videos which are probably better for teaching basic physical skills. ...But compared to what else I have found, this book is the BIBLE.

I read the book from front to back. It was interesting if you're into basketball and coaching/teaching strategies. Each chapter was written by a different coach. Some sections were excellent as the coach explained the idea of the drill/play while others were just x's and o's without too much explanation besides this player goes here and does that. I love coaching and studying basketball strategies, plays, drills, etc.. for fun, but at times this book dragged on and lost my attention, which is hard to do with me and basketball strategy.

Very interesting and inspiring book for everybody who works as a basketball coach all over the world. From my perspective the real value of that book is concerned with NBA-world, and showing some tactical solutions recommended by NBA coaches.

Great basketball teaching book. Learning good things.

I found this book to very good in covering and explain details of the various fundamental skills of teaching the game. Vitally important information on coaching along with proper attitude of handling players, situations, and your coaching methods, this book is a must for any serious coach at all levels of the game.

This book probably has the most complete basketball strategy for all basketball coaches. It has all the drawings and diagram for famous plays in the NBA. The only downside of this book is the size. It's pretty heavy and big (like hardcover big). I can't bring this book to a plane to read. A must read for all basketball players and coaches.

I purchased this for my son, who is a new coach. He is thrilled with it! It is very informative and helpful, he has found it very useful. Price point was great...I highly recommend.

Explains the tactics of NBA brilliantly and gives good advice for sports coaching in general. Some of the detail is heavy going for non basketball fans, but worth the effort.

Bought this for my dad. He loves it, easy read and the text is large. Good for older people.

This book educated me on how basketball is played at the highest level, as well as methods to convey information. I could not have asked for a better book to build my knowledgebase on.
