Tachometer
I needed an accurate tachometer to set the RPMs of an engine powered pump. I had an old analog (dial) one that started giving erratic readings, so I thought I'd try this one.Simple to use, just turn it on, and read the RPMs, and it 'holds' the latest reading on the screen for a few seconds. You can also set it to read things like maximum RPM, and with the right accessory, can even read linear FPM for things like a conveyor belt.My biggest nit to pick, is that it seems a bit delicate when compared to my old all-metal one, especially the tips that engage the shaft, (old one was metal with a rubber tip, this one is plastic and also smaller) but it has worked well enough. For the couple times a year I'll be using it, it is fine. Came with a carrying case that keeps all the pieces together. I got this one because it had an extension for the tip/shaft to be able to engage a shaft within a recess, and I'm glad I did. With the regular tip and no extension, it does not have a lot of reach.

Cheap junk, half of the measurement modes do not work
Some measurement modes do not work at all: m/min, m/sec, ft/sec. Other measurement modes did work: ft/min, in/min, and Contact (RPM). At this price point I don't expect much, but I do expect it to function as advertised when it arrives.Followed (poorly written / translated) instructions and tried metric 'perimeter' setting (0.1m) with metric measurement modes, with no luck. Measurement mode ft/sec did not work with standard perimeter settings (6" or 12").Tried all perimeter settings with all measurement modes, never did get readings for measurement modes m/min, m/sec, ft/sec. To be clear, in my opinion this appears to be a design / firmware issue and not a one-off defective unit.Of the modes that did work, I didn't have another method with which to compare accuracy.Backlit screen is bright. Unit housing appears reasonably solid for an entry-level device. However the measurement shaft bearing is exposed at the top of the unit (see photo), and dust/dirt will ruin any bearing over time, so the device not designed for typical manufacturing or automotive environments. Also note that the orange areas are a coating on the plastic housing, not a thick silicone boot / shell. The coating provides good grip and visibility, and minimal impact protection.Measuring tips are plastic, and rubber wheels / tips are not attached with adhesive / epoxy so they could become detached and lost.Unit came with a zippered canvas pouch.

RPM is great, Everything else is not
If all you are measuring is RPM, this tool works well. ANY other measurement, especially Ft/Min requires turning on the device using 2 buttons and then a set-up of another 6 or 8 buttons to get it to work. Then when it turns off you have to go through the whole process again as it does not save the set-up. This will require your workers to take out the booklet and figure it out every time if they only use it once in a while. NOT intuitive.
