Newton's Comet: Handmade & Organic 3D Brain Teaser Wooden Puzzle for Adults from SiamMandalay with SM Gift Box(Pictured)

I gave this to a co-worker. She had some difficulty taking it apart at first, but she was able to disassemble and reassemble with some difficulty. It looks great on her desk and the quality is nice. It's definitely more challenging than other puzzles I purchased.

Smaller than I expected it to be. Got this for someone else as a gift and was surprised at the size and quality.

Is as advertised but not sure how it will hold up after a few uses...seems a little flimsy. Works for now and people who come to visit have fun with it.

I really liked the idea of this puzzle; alas, the reality is very disappointing.1st, the wood is very rough; clearly better sanding and/or some type of a sealant/glaze/oil is needed because this, not only looks cheaply made, while handling it you feel like you have to be extra careful to avoid giving yourself a sliver.2nd, the wood is extremely light, so you also get the sense that you have to be careful not to deform or break pieces as you work to assemble and disassemble the puzzle. If you are giving it as a gift, the lack of any heft also makes it less impressive.3rd, because the wooden pieces have not been sealed, it also picks up scratches very easily, so the longer you play with it, the worse it's going to look.Personally, I did not find this puzzle challenging, but what made it even less so was that the 1st thing I pulled out of the box was a step by step diagram of precisely how to solve it.If you happen to be someone who can't help peeking at that paper or you get a good look at the instructions before you realize what they are, it somewhat defeats the entire purpose of this type of 3-D puzzle.In the end, the quality of this product is simply not on par with the price and nowhere near what the item description would lead you to believe.If you wanted to make it look nicer, you could of course sand down all the rough spots, then apply some like polyurethane to each piece, but I doubt most people will want to go to those lengths just to make this into something you would want to play with and display.I generally like handicrafts and really like the idea of supporting small businesses in developing communities; however, in this case those two pros are overshadowed by the poor quality of the puzzle itself.

I'm a little on the fence about this one. While I love doing wooden puzzles like this, this is probably not the best quality. If I saw this in a store for what it is listed at I probably would not purchase but I would play with it on the shelf. It definitely could have been finished better. The puzzle is a little challenging, especially for someone who doesn't do these all the time. My spouse and I enjoy this sort of thing and as an engineer it definitely is a fun way to keep the brain sharp.
