Great magnetic drawing board for travel
This is a great magnetic drawing board on the smaller side, which makes it very well-suited for travel. It is very sturdy and will definitely appeal to any Doc McStuffins fan (or most any little girl). Although I generally find VTech toys to be pretty annoying, for some reason this one doesn't bother me so much -- as the voice is really Doc McStuffins' and not some repetitive robotic voice. There are two alphabet and one numbers tracing packs which clip in easily (3 year old has no problem doing it, and I think a 2.5 year old would be able to as well). When you start tracing the letters (which are upper case), the clipboard will say what letter it is and sometimes it gives a little info (something like "K is for Kiwi! Kiwis are delicious and they are good for you!"). This is great for letter reinforcement. Also, in case anyone is concerned, wherever you press on the letter it will say the letter name (so even if you start making the letter O at the bottom of the O instead of the top, it will still recognize the letter). I like it that there are only 3 tracing packs as they are easy to keep track of. VTech has another magnetic board with more letters (that my daughter also loves), and they are all over the house. :). The price has been fluctuating a little here, so I recommend putting it in your cart and monitoring for a few days before purchase to see if you can snag a deal. (Now I see it is fourteen - totally worth it!). We got ours for seventeen bucks but I bet it will go lower eventually. It can be a little tricky to write/draw at the very top/bottom/sides of the clipboard - so I see that sometimes my 3 year old has a little trouble even with tracing at the very top. But she loves removing the tracing clip-ons and admiring her work, which is so cute. And the clipboard shape gave me an opportunity to explain to her how doctors take notes to remember their patients - and then we took turns with me being the doctor and vice versa...definitely added a fun "role play" element. One negative: it's a little annoying how the music goes constantly, and even the softer of the two options on the volume control isn't too quiet... (You were warned!) :). Edit: A few weeks in and my daughter asks for it at least once a day. We have already lost one of the three clip ons but that's ok (sigh). She really loves it! Further edit: just saw it for twelve a tru and it's forty here???

but it's been a great creative toy even without all the built-in features in ...
We gave this to our son for Christmas when he was 2. We have never put batteries in it so he has only used it as a drawing pad, but it's been a great creative toy even without all the built-in features in use. He and his little sister have been playing with it almost every day for a year and a half, and some of the magnets on the screen just broke after months of banging it around and sometimes forceful scribbling (he likes to draw explosions) so we are replacing it but happy to do so. From reading reviews of other similar magnetic drawing pads, this is far more durable, and the screen size is smaller but for the better quality it's worth it. The size is perfect to take it along to restaurants, on airplanes, in the car, etc. As they grow we will add the batteries and let them discover the other activities. You get your money's worth from this toy.

Education for the Win
How cute is this?Just purchased this as a gift! Not only does the child get to make believe that they are Doc McStuffins, but it is also educational as well. This pad comes with 3 stencils so the child can trace their letters as well as their numbers. There are 4 modes to the toy, tracing, drawing objects, drawing to keep the music playing, and drawing whatever the child desires. Very good for imaginative play and hand eye coordination.Anytime my child gets to play and secretly learn something as well, I am all about it.The box says that it is for ages 2-5, but I would say that older kids could use it as well.Comes with batteries, but it will take 2 AAA batteriesI would say that if your child is into Doc McStuffins this is a must have toy!

A Great Toy!
This pad is so cute and when our little one is playing with her other Doc McStuffins toys she feels so official with her little clip board. The pad has setting for free drawing, tracing on the stencils and a game where it will keep playing music as long as you are drawing. My daughter has been playing with it pretty heavily since Christmas and it has stood up to drops, hard scribbling and banging on the buttons. The screen part of the board has started to grey a bit, but that could be from how hard my daughter presses when she draws, or it's just the eventual fate of all etch-a-sketches (sp?). But, it's a toy that I would recommend as your little one is trying to learn her letters and shapes, and it also makes a great distraction for when you need them to be quiet for a bit. Of course you then have to keep them from trying to hit the sound button!
